Legs still tired and sore from Saturdays 31 mile bike ride.

Ran 4.5 miles last night - worst run in a long time. Had no energy, felt tired. Came as close as I can remember in a long time to just quitting. :(
Bad runs like that are as hard on me mentally as they are physically.

Rest day today. Run on Thursday. Supposed to do a 10k race on Saturday - but after last nights run, I wonder if its worth it.

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs w/spinach, 2 diced deli ham slices and a little fresh grated parm. cheese
Lunch: Sweet potato w/ grilled chicken breast
Dinner: roasted chicken breast w/avocado slices, oven roasted veggies

Well running with sore legs from a massive bike ride would probably test anyones mentality, but you can be proud of not quitting :).

These are all little positives to help you succeed. By discovering little things that amount to hinderances, on the road to physical success, you learn to avoid them and have a smoother journey to success along the way.

I love what you had with your chicken... I'm going to get sweet potatoes and avocados from the grocery store asap, those are great lunch and dinner options.
Keep up the great work :)

Have you decided yet how many miles you are going to go for with the bike race? do you have a mileage counter on your bike to keep track? I use to have something like that on bike when i was a teenager. Good luck tomorrow if you decide to do the 10k!

31 miles?!?!?!?! Wow, that's insane - great for you! I don't have time to go back and read everything I have missed over the few months, but wow, you must be making some progress!

Thanks Joc! I'm training for an upcoming bike race. I've decided to just do the 25 mile distance, instead of the 52 mile. Just not enough time to properly train for that longer distance. I know I can do 25 miles so I'm just concentrating on getting faster at that distance.

Ran the race today, but only ran the 5k distance instead of the 10k. Won 3rd place in age division.
Wasn't best finishing time - but it shows me where I'm at and what i need to do to get faster. goal is to beat last years PR time by the end of this year. :D

Lost 2lbs. this week, eating more protein, less starchy, processed carbs, & more controlled portions. :D :D

All in all, the week ended up on a positive note. :P

thanks Bossman and Becky.

The distance of the Tri is 1/4 mile swim, 12 mile road race, 3 mile trail/dirt race.

Well, I'm feeling all inspired from race so I've signed up to do another one this coming Saturday! It's a 5k Trail race, should be a lot of fun, I love running trails.
Not much chance for a medal, they are only giving out medals to the top 3 finishers overall , female, and I already know of 3 of friends that are running it too that are faster than me - but that's okay, I'm really racing against previous time anyway.

Breakfast: homemade whey protein shake w/1/2 scoop choc. whey protein powder, 1 cup unsweet. almond milk, 1 tbsp. all nat. pb, 2 frozen strawberries, 4 slices of frozen peach, 1/2 banana
Snack: almonds, peanuts, almond joy pieces (handful altogether)
Lunch: Steamed sweet potato w/butter and 1 packet of Sugar in the raw / roasted chicken breast w/1/2 avocado and picante sauce toppings
Snack: almonds, peanuts, almond joy pieces (handful altogether)
Dinner: Chicken breast, stir fried (tbsp evoo) w/onion & spinach, zucchini or potato.

Workout: 3.5 mile run w/30-45 second pickups to race pace every 1/2 mile.

It's the experience that counts, not the medals :D Great job on being so consistent with it, though! You guys are inspiring me to go for a triathalon! sister did a Dirty Girl race in August, now that is something I would LOVE to do so I may have to shoot for one of those soon :D

do it!! You'll love it. I love the atmosphere at a triathlon. Everyone nervously getting their bike racked and stations set up, then lining up for the swim, young guns in the front all pumped up (plenty of eye candy  ) then the gun goes off and it's now or never...no time to question training, no second thoughts, just swim, point a to point b the best way you can, and try not to get run over  then coming up out of the water, trying to run to the bike is always lots of fun, bare feet on parking lot (ouch) but somehow you don't feel it...then trying to make your brain work "towel off, socks on, shoes - where's gu gel?...helmet on, unrack bike, run beside it til you exit the transition area, then off you go, the feeling of the wind on your wet skin is incredible, feels empowering. Miles and miles later, legs feeling like lead, heart beyond pumping hard, sweat replaces the wet water on your skin, you roll into the transition area, and hop off the bike. Instantly realizing that your legs have forgotten how to stand up  , shakily you rack your bike, then get your running shoes on, suck down a gu gel and gatorade, and take out for the run - your legs feel like they weigh a ton, its hard to make them move forward, but somehow you do, and pretty soon you are zooming along like a well oiled machine, passing people, hearing the cheers, high-fiveing little kids on the road side, grabbing a water from some overly happy volunteer who chirps "your doing great...almost there!" when you know they are lying.. eventually you see the finish line looming ahead and the encouraging shouts from the people lining the finish sound like a roar in your ear - you see their mouths moving, but you don't really understand what they are saying....all you can do is focus on that finish line, one stride at a time - finally crossing and knowing now that you can stop, you take a minute or two to catch your breath, someone hands you a bottle of water, and you stand around talking with other finishers, a brotherhood of like souls who know they just accomplished something great.... you suddenly realize that you feel fantastic and are strong, capable and can't wait to do it all again.

Yeah.....you definitely need to do a triathlon. 8) 8)

Lynne, you're the only person I know that can make pain sound enjoyable  I just realized that if I do a tri I would need to get a new bike. Mine is a hybrid, far from a racing bike! Although I am sure I could borrow one from a friend, or maybe I could trade up. I will definitely have to think about it. I am seriously thinking about doing the half marathon in town in May. Now that I am running again I am addicted :D I will probably try to get in a few 5Ks and 10Ks in over the winter to keep myself motivated! I have never done one before, but I think it's time

Becky, it would be kind of fun to all train for one at the same time, it would be great motivation!

hahaha, that's just how I roll.

Didn't get to do the trail race - hubby was sick, so I stayed home to take care of him. :)

Good news:
Lost 2.4 lbs. this week!
