I agree. It is supposed to have some effect, though I belive it has little to none, and strangely it has in latter years become one of about 6 different substances being classed as Amino Acids for some reasons, I don't entirely know why.

The only sort of supplements that might have an effect on peoples Fat levels, are things like healthy Oil based supplements, or CLA for example.

Is it possible though the fact it didn't do much for you, might have been related in some way to your Thyroid situation?

As I say, I'm not advocating CLA and fatty acdis, as definite Fat reduction options, but I believe they could do such things in some people.

I gotta agree with Amatlack on this one... I did the CLA for about 3 months and didn't notice much of a difference either. Might have been just me though. There are SO many factors that need to be considered when deciding if a supplement is working or not that sometimes its hard to tell if its doing any good or if there are other factors that are helping/preventing results.

Not sure about carnitine but CLA seemed to have an effect on me. I was also concentrating on diet and working out really hard at the time. I did loose body fat on it though. I was instructed to take 6 a day which is 3 more than the bottle recommended but it worked. I was also using a fish oil sup as well.

workout partner lost 25 pounds while taking CLA alone. He was also dieting hard at the time though. So it might of helped we both feel it did.

There is no substitute for calorie deficit if you don’t change diet you wont loose fat.

CLA nightmare. I jumped on the CLA and GLA bandwagon when I found a tread in another forum. I got it, took the recommened dosage and after five days, I was up five pounds. Took me nearly a week to lose those five pounds. I am back on straight vitamins.

i take Thermo Trim Liquid carnitine. I think i do notice a difference in weight loss with this product and hence thou expensive, i would buy it again.

In own case, due to another medical condition i have, it is quite likely i could have carnitine deficiency (from body not metabolising things well), so maybe that is why it seems to be helping me.
..............

"Acetyl-L-Carnitine is low in CFS & Fibromyalgia and this deficiency contributes to both the weight gain and fatigue. This new study shows that it also helps pain and depression in Fibromyalgia as well. A second study shows it even helps cancer related fatigue. The dose to take is 500 mg 2 x day. Higher doses are LESS effective. "

"Low levels of the carnitine compound acylcarnitine in the blood or muscles of people with CFS/FMS have been found by two different research centers.(1,2) "

Carnitine isn't a Vitamin. Not trying to sound arsey.

In fact for some reason in recent years it's started to be classed as an Amino Acid, along with a few others like Citrulline, Gaba, and Hydroxy-proline so I believe. So people are supposed to go around saying there's 25 or 26 Amino Acids now.

Quite confusing.
