Angela MacKenzie – Fitness Model Interview

Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I grew up outside of Dayton, Ohio. I have an Accounting Degree.

How and why did you get started in fitness?
I have always been active. After having children, I found my way into the gym where I immediately became addicted.

What is the best thing about being fit and living a healthy lifestyle?
I have more energy, I’m very active and I just physically feel better overall.

Tell us about your biggest fitness influence?
I used to read magazines and articles and fell in love with Monica Brandt.

What is your greatest achievement so far?
Just getting on stage was a challenge for me and it really took me outside of my comfort zone. No matter how I placed, I worked hard and was proud to share the stage with other amazing women.

What is your favorite body part on yourself and on the opposite sex?
My favorite body part would be abs. I like working them hard and then dieting to where they really come through is very satisfying. For the opposite sex, I would probably say chest.

What kind of cardio do you like best and why?
I enjoy jogging and running, especially outdoors.

What type of nutritional supplements do you use?
BCAAs (Branched Chain Amino Acids), glutamine and multivitamins.

What do you think of the latest fitness trends like P90X, Insanity and CrossFit?
I think they are great, although I do not have a lot of experience with them. It’s always good to have variety with your workouts and change things up.

What type of food or supplements do you consume pre-workout and post-workout?
I have a pre-workout drink with BCAAs and my post-workout drink is a protein shake.

How do you deal with cravings for junk foods, sweets and salty food?
I do not have junk food or cheat foods easily available which is a big help for avoiding them. I simply do not keep them in the house. I also avoid areas where cravings might occur like going to the movies or hanging out in the kitchen.

What are the contents of your refrigerator?
Eggs (lots of eggs), chicken, fruits, veggies, yogurt, vitamin water.

What are your top 3 favorite exercises and why?
I really like squats, bench press and hanging leg raises.

What tips do you recommend for eating out at restaurants to stay on a clean diet?
I usually bring my own food with me or make special requests when I’m at a restaurant. Some examples are having a plain chicken breast with no seasoning with plain broccoli or green beans with no butter or oil.

What does your gym playlist look like and what’s your favorite song to listen to when training?
I enjoy listening to a lot of 80s rock music.

What is the most challenging thing you deal with about consistently staying in top shape?
