Renee’s Weight Loss Story!

When did you become unhappy with your weight?
I was unhappy with my weight gain long before I actually did what it took to lose the weight. But the breaking point came for me on July 7, 2010.

What made you decide to lose weight?
renee-h-weight-loss-story-2I had been arrested on DUI charges after being pulled over for not wearing a helmet on my moped. The arrest record said I weighted 260 pounds!

What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
I quit drinking. Then I improved my diet and reconditioned my body. I changed everything about myself that needed to be corrected.

What was most challenging about losing weight?
Not eating when I was bored. I noticed that when I dieted, I thought about eating a lot! It was a challenge to be patient and understand that if I took it one day at a time, I would reach my goal.

How long did it take you to start to see results?
About a month. After I quit drinking, I lost about 30 pounds very quickly. My stomach shrunk because I was no longer bloated and retaining water.

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
About 1 year. I gained back a few pounds here and there, but my weight was under control and within a reasonably controlled limit. Now, I follow a very healthy diet which consists primarily on vegetables, fruits, protein, nuts and seeds. Every now and then I cleanse and follow a planned regimen until I lose 10 pounds or so.

How long have you maintained your weight loss and how do you do it?
I have maintained my weight for 1.5 years by eating a well-balanced diet consisting of nutrient rich superfoods.

What keeps you motivated to continue your weight loss success?
I never want to go back to where I was before my weight loss. I avoided mirrors and refused to have my photo taken. I like the way I look and feel at 50 years old! I enjoy hiking, practicing yoga, and riding my horse. I’m motivated by inspiring others to do the same as I have done because I understand the pain involved in being fat.

How has your life changed now that you’ve lost weight?
I feel much better. I’m not in pain anymore. I’m flexible. I can wear regular sized clothes and I don’t have to go through the painful experience of buying fat ladies clothes that do not look good on me anyway.

Weight loss tip #1:
Choose fruit as a snack.

Weight loss tip #2:
Always have salads ready.

Cook and prepare food ahead so you always have it ready.

Don’t drink alcohol.

Weight loss tip #5:
Get moving. Find an activity you enjoy and do it regularly.

Renee’s Weight Loss Eating Plan!

Breakfast:
renee-h-weight-loss-story-3Oatmeal with flaxseed, berries and almond or soy milk. Or, a 5-6 egg omelet with broccoli, onions and peppers.

Lunch:
Lean protein like chicken, turkey or beef with a garden salad or plenty of steamed vegetables. I’m big on vegetables and I’m lucky to love them so much!

Dinner:
The same as lunch but I make different choices. Sometimes I eat Asian food out at restaurants but I’m careful to be sure and pick the choices which are full of vegetables and lean protein. I limit my starchy carbohydrates.

Snacks or Mini Meals:
I eat a lot of fruit in between meals. Sometimes I have yogurt, a piece of cheese, a protein drink or a blended juice drink or smoothie.

Nutritional Supplements:
I supplement my diet with a good natural multivitamin, omega-3’s and a probiotic for women.

Renee’s Weight Loss Workouts!

Weight Training:
My average weight training workout consists of free weight flyes, dumbbell presses, lat pulldowns, triceps pressdowns, biceps curls, leg extensions, leg curls, and leg presses.

Cardiovascular:
My cardio training consists of hiking uphill, walking uphill, and dancing to the rhythm of the beat. I also practice yoga and ride my horse.
