Risa’s Weight Loss Story!

When did you become unhappy with your weight?
After the birth of my second daughter.

What made you decide to lose weight?
I had a friend at work that wanted to feel healthier. I thought it would be nice for us to support each other, not realizing how much I would get out of the experience.

What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
I became much more active, created a support group, gave myself HUGE goals, and started eating super clean.

What was most challenging about losing weight?
risa-weight-loss-success-story-2It all has been a challenge, everyday. But I wake up everyday and remember that if I am not a healthy role model for my kids, they can’t grow up to be healthy themselves.

How long did it take you to start to see results?
It took a long time, I would say about 6 months before results were visible to me.

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
It has been a very long slow process, 2 1/2 years of hard work. But this has been entire lifestyle makeover, not just a weight loss program.

How long have you maintained your weight loss and how do you do it?
Still losing as I am still getting ready for my first figure/fitness competition.

How has your life changed now that you’ve lost weight?
I am so much more confident. I feel healthy. I suffer from moderate arthritis and when I told my doctor I was training to compete in a figure/fitness competition, he said I never would do it! I am 3 weeks out, and more excited and ready than ever!

How did ShapeFit help you reach your weight loss goals?
I love these stories! Also the competition strategies help, lots of articles for all people, no matter what the goal. I love all the information that is on this website. By far one of the easiest tools out there to use, whether you are new to weight loss and working out, or been doing it forever. Great tool!

Risa’s Weight Loss Workouts!

Weight Training:
I weight train 5 times a week. Depending on where I am preparing for the show, is how heavy I will go, or how many reps. But I always break down my body parts so I get a good rest in between working them again.

Cardiovascular:
I do cardio 6 times a week, 2x a day (in season) and 1x a day when off-season. 30-45 minutes, interval, whether it be elliptical, treadmill or stair stepper. I always do interval training to keep my heart rate up.
