How much did you lose (pounds, inches, dress/pants size)?
I have lost 40 pounds and 5 inches from my waist! I used to wear size 46 jeans and now size 40 jeans fit me!

When did you become unhappy with your weight (were you overweight as a child or did you gain weight as an adult)?
From childhood, I was fat and always unhappy with myself. I became obese soon after graduating high school. It was always a struggle to find clothes that fit me.

What made you decide to lose weight?
It happened when I visited Dubai last year on vacation. I saw pictures of myself and was shocked! Another incident that made me decide to lose weight is when I went on an elevator and it actually stalled due to my weight! Everybody in the elevator was looking at me and they knew it was because I was overweight that it would not move. From early childhood, people would always mock me about my size. Another major concern was that my health was declining. I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and I was diagnosed as a pre-diabetic.

What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
I started eating healthy, started walking and then eventually began running. I also joined a local gym.

What was the most challenging thing you had to deal with during your weight loss journey?
The most challenging thing for me was to stay persistent. In the past, I had started a diet and exercise plan but always failed. This time I was more focused to reach my goals.

How long did it take you to start to see results?
It took me about a month to start seeing results.

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
It took 6 months to get this far. I still have 40 pounds to lose in order to reach my goal!

Did you have any issues with loose skin after losing the weight? If so, how did you deal with it (surgery, etc)?
I don’t have any loose skin, but I still need to lose another 40 pounds. Hopefully, I don’t have this problem when all the weight is off.

How long have you maintained your weight loss and what are the most important factors for keeping it off?
I am still losing weight, so I’m just trying to maintain my current weight loss and make small improvements to reach my final weight loss goal.

What keeps you motivated to continue your weight loss success?
People’s comments about my weight loss are great. I also like to look at myself in the mirror and see the results!

How has your life changed now that you have lost weight?
I can finally breathe and my blood pressure and cholesterol levels are fine now! My previous risk of getting diabetes is all gone also!

Do you have any advice for others who are trying to lose weight?
Be persistent and hopeful and wait for good things to happen!

What do you normally eat for breakfast?
Oatmeal and 4 egg whites and tea.

What do you normally eat for lunch?
Steamed chicken with vegetables.

Chapati (flatbread) or brown rice with curry.

What do you normally eat for snacks?
Fruits and nuts.

What type of nutritional supplements do you take?
A multivitamin and fish oil capsules.

Adnan’s Weight Loss Workouts!

What do you do for weight training (exercises, workouts)?
I do cardio 6 days a week along with weight training. I exercise for 1.5 hours per day and each workout includes 30 minutes of running with 60 minutes of weight lifting with exercises like squats, push-ups, deadlifts and other resistance movements. I like to train one muscle group per day.

What do you do for cardio training (exercises, workouts)?
My main exercise for cardio is running. I like to run for about 30 minutes per day and I perform cardio 6 days per week.
