Amith’s Weight Loss Interview!
How much did you lose?
I lost 100 pounds! My pant size used to be 52 inches and now it’s 36 inches!
When did you become unhappy with your weight?
I started gaining weight as an adult and when day-to-day activities were getting difficult, I knew it was time to make a change. It was getting hard to even commute to different places.
What made you decide to lose weight?
I didn’t want to be obese any longer. I wanted to do it and prove everyone wrong who told me I would never succeed.
What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
I included physical activity and started walking daily. I also cut out sugar completely. It’s important to follow a balanced diet. Don’t just focus on cardio for your main source of exercise. Make sure to also include weight training in your exercise routine to build lean muscle mass.
What was the most challenging thing you had to deal with during your weight loss journey?
The urge to consume junk food was very difficult because I’m a binge eater. Instead of eating those high fat and sugar laden foods, I would focus on eating clean, healthy foods. Eating healthy was my biggest challenge.
How long did it take you to start to see results?
I started dropping weight in the first month. I could feel myself getting lighter and faster. Within 3 months, I started running!
How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
It took me 2 years to reach my current weight. The reason it took that long is because I would fall off the wagon and start eating junk food after doing 3 months of hard work. I would then get back on track.
Did you have any issues with loose skin after losing the weight? If so, how did you deal with it?
Yes, loose skin is a problem. When your waist shrinks from 52 inches to 36 inches, there is a considerable amount of loose skin and stretch marks. I have accepted that fact and I’m living with it. I do a lot of resistance training to help tone up my abdomen.
How long have you maintained your weight loss and what are the most important factors for keeping it off?
Make sure to continue with your workouts even after you have reached your weight loss goal. Allocate 1 hour of physical activity every day and try to avoid bingeing on junk foods. It’s also important to count your calories.
What keeps you motivated to continue your weight loss success?
The mirror! Yes, my mirror keeps me motivated. When I see myself, I always think of doing even better. Also, when people come up and congratulate me, it feels really good!
How has your life changed now that you have lost weight?
I feel much more confident and lighter now! I have also become a fitness guru for the people around me. People tend to ask me for exercise tips and suggestions to help them lose weight and get fit.
Do you have any advice for others who are trying to lose weight?
There will be hard days when you feel like giving up, but don’t do it! If you can get through that one difficult day then you will stay focused and reach your goals. Remember, it’s not impossible. It might be difficult at times, but it is doable.

What do you normally eat for breakfast?
A protein shake with some oats and an apple.
What do you normally eat for lunch?
I eat 3 chapatis (flatbread) with lots of green vegetables and cottage cheese.
What do you normally eat for dinner?
2 chapatis (flatbread) with vegetables. I drink a protein shake before going to bed.
What do you normally eat for snacks?
I munch on fruit and popcorn (no butter). I also enjoy biscuits (lots of good fiber).
What type of nutritional supplements do you take?
I take a daily multivitamin and a protein supplement.

What do you do for weight training?
I really enjoy doing mass building exercises like deadlifts, bench press and squats. My weekly workout routine is:

- Tuesday: Upper Back
- Wednesday: Arms
- Thursday: Chest
- Friday: Lower Back
- Saturday: Legs
What do you do for cardio training?
I like doing HIIT cardio (High Intensity Interval Training) for 20 minutes several times per week.
