Cristina’s Weight Loss Interview
How much did you lose?
I was able to lose 200 pounds and went from a size 24 to a size 8 in pants! I also went from a size 4x to a medium in my tops and dresses!
When did you become unhappy with your weight?
Since the 5th grade I have been the “big” girl and that’s about the time when my mom and step dad got divorced. I was an overeater. I would eat anything in the house and I would eat it all. My mom tried to only have healthy options in the house, but that didn’t deter me and I would still eat in excess. I was very active and played multiple sports at a competitive level, but could never get my eating under control. In my sophomore year of high school, I lost 50 pounds, but gained it all back and then some in my senior year. I tried to just be the big girl and to own it and just make it a part of me. I always hated being the “big girl” though!
What made you decide to lose weight?
I decided to try a Zumba class while my son was practicing basketball. I hated it! Nothing about it was enjoyable to me. I even told my friend that I was just going to be the “fat mom” forever. That fall I decided to try a boot camp while my son was at football practice since I had been an athlete growing up. I thought it would be so much easier than Zumba.
What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
Eating right all of the time and exercising at least 3 times a week were the keys to my weight loss.
What was the most challenging thing you had to deal with during your weight loss journey?
Nobody in my house made changes to their eating or fitness and that was difficult to deal with during my journey.
How long did it take you to start to see results?
It only took a few weeks to see a change because I was so large that the weight came off really fast, at first.
How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
It took 4 years to reach my current weight.
Did you have any issues with loose skin after losing the weight?
I have some loose skin and I’m looking into different doctors to have it removed.
How long have you maintained your weight loss and what are the most important factors for keeping it off?
I have maintained my weight loss for a year now. I have to remain dedicated to my new way of living even when I don’t feel like it.
What keeps you motivated to continue your weight loss success?
I hated being overweight so much that I never want to be that miserable again!
How has your life changed now that you have lost weight?
I have so much more energy now! I have also become so much more driven and goal oriented.
Do you have any advice for others who are trying to lose weight?
Start with small changes and keep adding to them.
How did ShapeFit help you reach your weight loss goals?
Seeing other people’s weight loss success stories on ShapeFit was very motivating!
