Jaime’s Weight Loss Interview
How much did you lose?
I lost 145 pounds and 12 sizes in only 9 months! My goal weight is 165 pounds!
When did you become unhappy with your weight?
After I turned 25, my weight started to balloon all the way until I was 35 years old and my weight was up to 397 pounds!
What made you decide to lose weight?
I attended a weight loss surgery seminar at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, New York on 2/14/2017. I got so scared from the seminar that I promised myself on the drive home that I would change my life forever. I was killing myself with every single bite! I started a ketogenic diet the next day. I limited my carbohydrates, eliminated sugars, bread and starches from my diet. I also started walking and then began swimming and now I alternate between going to the gym and swimming.
What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
A ketogenic diet and regular exercise. I started walking 4-5 days a week and got up to 3-4 miles in under an hour. Then I started swimming for 90 minutes a day, 4-5 days per week. Now, I go to the gym to lift weights for 30 minutes before I swim for 45 minutes in the pool and I do this 4-5 days a week.
What was the most challenging thing you had to deal with during your weight loss journey?
Patience! The weight didn’t come on overnight and I definitely wasn’t going to lose it overnight! Discipline was the hardest thing to deal with and I tried to have control over everything I ate which was difficult. 80% of weight loss is what you put into your mouth!
How long did it take you to start to see results?
In the first 3 months I lost 50 pounds. Every 3 months that I’ve been on my journey I’ve lost 50 pounds which makes it almost 150 pounds of total weight loss in only 9 months.
How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
It took me 9 months to reach my current weight.
Did you have any issues with loose skin after losing the weight? If so, how did you deal with it?
I have very little loose skin because I’ve been exercising the whole time I’ve been losing the weight. This has tightened up my body since I’ve lost body fat and gained muscle mass.
How long have you maintained your weight loss and what are the most important factors for keeping it off?
I have not had any problems maintaining. I have 85 pounds more to lose to reach my goal weight. I have not gained a pound back so far.
What keeps you motivated to continue your weight loss success?
Compliments! I also love how my clothes feel. Even when the scale doesn’t move, I’m still losing inches!
How has your life changed now that you have lost weight?
I am much more active now! I love to exercise at the gym and swim in the pool. I don’t avoid social gatherings any longer. I used to be embarrassed about my size when I was heavy. I also don’t have any knee and back pain now and I can fit into every chair at my office and I can fit into any booth at any restaurant! I forgot how wonderful shopping for new clothes is! Most importantly, I wish to encourage and inspire my friends and family with my weight loss journey. I have a book in the works that I hope will inspire the world!
Do you have any advice for others who are trying to lose weight?
It is not easy and time will pass regardless, so you may as well be productive with your life! It will be the hardest project you’ll ever work on, but it will be totally well worth it!
