LaKesha’s Weight Loss Interview
How much did you lose?
I’ve lost 95 pounds, 8 dress sizes and 10 inches around my waist!
When did you become unhappy with your weight?
I’ve been overweight for over 20 years. I remember back to middle school that I was a big girl.
What made you decide to lose weight?
A health professional told me that if I didn’t make some changes immediately that I wouldn’t be around to see my son graduate from high school. I also began to have heart palpitations every night along with other pain.
What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
I made healthier food choices and started eating more fruits and vegetables. I stopped eating after a certain time and started to drink only water.
What was the most challenging thing you had to deal with during your weight loss journey?
Making healthy choices is extremely hard when you love sweets and bread! It’s a conscious decision that has to be made daily. You are truly in a battle with your own mind and you have to be strong to win.
How long did it take you to start to see results?
It took a few months. This was not the first time I had lost weight so I knew what to expect as far as the amount of time it would take to start seeing the difference. It’s hard to push through when you are just starting out because you want to see changes from day one.
How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
It took me a year to reach my current weight.
Did you have any issues with loose skin after losing the weight?
I’m still in the process of losing weight so I try to lift weights to help with that issue. I won’t know until I get closer to my goal weight as to how much loose skin I will or won’t have. Surgery is definitely an option for me if it’s really needed.
How long have you maintained your weight loss and what are the most important factors for keeping it off?
I’ve continued to lose weight so I’ve been able to keep it off for a little over a year.
What keeps you motivated to continue your weight loss success?
My son keeps me motivated! He is indeed my biggest motivator. I couldn’t imagine not being here for him so that’s what keeps me going. Just knowing that I have to be here for him is so important and keeps me focused on this journey.
How has your life changed now that you have lost weight?
No more heart palpitations! The numbness has also subsided. I feel amazing! I know I’m in much better shape than I was before. God has truly been good to me!
Do you have any advice for others who are trying to lose weight?
Do it! You have to make up in your mind that this is something you are going to do. If you are tired of being tired then you will push through every obstacle and every excuse and make it happen for yourself. Nothing is stopping you, but you, so get out of your own way and start living the life you were meant to live!

LaKesha’s Weight Loss Eating Plan
What do you normally eat for breakfast?
Smoothie (frozen fruit, water, a little Fiji juice, spinach and flaxseeds). Or, I have egg whites with a sprinkle of cheese and a choice of meat.
What do you normally eat for lunch?
Lunch consists of several different options like: Ground turkey chili with veggies. Spaghetti squash with red sauce and ground turkey. Salmon with veggies. Chicken quesadillas with veggies.
What do you normally eat for dinner?
I do intermittent fasting, so my last meals are normally lunch or a snack. If I do eat dinner it is more than likely the same foods as the lunch items mentioned above.
What do you normally eat for snacks?
I like to snack on Himalayan popcorn, non-dairy yogurt and granola, peanuts, sugar-free Popsicles, fruit.
What type of nutritional supplements do you take?
I do not currently take any nutritional supplements.
LaKesha’s Weight Loss Workouts
What do you do for weight training (exercises, workouts)?
I do free weights and also machine weights. I work on mostly upper body using the weights for different exercises. I normally do 6 different exercises with 4 sets and 12 to 15 reps per set. I do this routine 3-4 times a week.
What do you do for cardio training (exercises, workouts)?
I do the Arc trainer, elliptical machine, treadmill, step machine, rowing machine and the stationary bike. I do 30 minutes per session, 4-5 times a week. I also like jumping rope and boxing for cardio.
