Paz’s Weight Loss Interview!

How much did you lose (pounds, inches, dress/pants size)?
I lost a total of 115 pounds, dropped 32 inches off my waist and went from a size 28-30 down to a size 14-16!

When did you become unhappy with your weight (were you overweight as a child or did you gain weight as an adult)?
I started this journey because I’ve always been overweight and I wanted to change that. I was sick of feeling tired. Walking from my desk to the printer would have me breathing heavy. At the age of 26, that is not the life I wanted for myself, so I made the decision to start getting healthy.

What made you decide to lose weight?
I slowly started making small changes like substituting all sugary drinks for plain water, giving up fast food and walking more. I eventually joined a local gym and started lifting weights which I fell in love with and it’s a lifestyle that I truly enjoy. Now I train to perform and I eat to perform. I’ve learned to love this lifestyle so much that I became a certified personal trainer to help others and to continue bettering myself.

What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
Eating habits are key! Learning how to eat and what to eat is the most important thing when it comes to losing weight.

What was the most challenging thing you had to deal with during your weight loss journey?
Dealing with everyone’s input. It seems like everybody has something to say and there are people who are not very supportive. It’s also important to understand that not everyone just wants to lose weight and be skinny. Some people want to just get healthy and be strong.

How long did it take you to start to see results?
I started seeing results 3 weeks into my journey. The weight was coming off and I was feeling better.

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
It took me 2.5 years to reach my current weight.

Did you have any issues with loose skin after losing the weight? If so, how did you deal with it (surgery, etc)?
Yes, I am not where I want to be and I’d still like to lose some more weight. I do have loose skin on my stomach which is the biggest problem area for me. I also have some loose skin on my arms, but that is slowly tightening up.

How long have you maintained your weight loss and what are the most important factors for keeping it off?
I’ve maintained my current weight for about 4 months. The most important factors are not actually about the weight, but how you are staying healthy. It so important to keep active and eat healthy.

What keeps you motivated to continue your weight loss success?
My overall health and planning for the future.

How has your life changed now that you have lost weight?
I’m much more active now and I’m able to plan more vacations. I can say that I am truly living now!

Do you have any advice for others who are trying to lose weight?
Yes, natural weight loss is possible. It takes time, so be patient. Don’t compare your journey with anyone else. It has taken me 2.5 years to lose 115 pounds. It might take only 1 year for another person to do the same. It doesn’t matter how long it takes, just focus on yourself. Your health is more important than you competing with other people. I am happy, healthy and am able to be active and enjoy my life now. Nothing can beat that!
