Tamiko’s Weight Loss Interview!

How much did you lose?
I lost 142 pounds and went from a size 26/28 to a size 6/7! I started at 277 pounds and my goal weight was 135 pounds and I hit it! I started and stopped quite a few times to be honest, but finally decided to work really hard and get to my goal a few years ago.

When did you become unhappy with your weight?
My weight problems started after the birth of my first child. Prior to giving birth, I was always considered normal size and I wasn’t overweight at all.

What made you decide to lose weight?
I was always fatigued and tired. I didn’t like the person I saw in the mirror and I was tired of being unhappy.

What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
The two most important changes were portion control and exercise. I learned to measure and weigh my food. It’s so easy to overeat and not be aware. Exercise was also vital to both my health and releasing frustration in a positive way.

What was the most challenging thing you had to deal with during your weight loss journey?
Hitting a plateau and not losing weight for a few months. Also, the time I spent in the gym took time away from my children. It was totally necessary, but still very difficult.

How long did it take you to start to see results?
I started seeing changes in about a month. Not huge changes, but definitely enough to keep me going.

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
It took about 2 years once I got really serious. I had many ups and downs during my journey.

Did you have any issues with loose skin after losing the weight? If so, how did you deal with it?
Unfortunately, I do have excess skin and I’ve considered surgery but haven’t taken that step yet. It’s definitely something I’m considering.

How long have you maintained your weight loss and what are the most important factors for keeping it off?
I’ve been maintaining my weight since January of 2015. I still workout regularly about 5-6 times a week. I watch what I eat and I never get “too comfortable”. In my mind I’ll always be on my weight loss journey.

What keeps you motivated to continue your weight loss success?
Looking in the mirror and seeing how far I have come. I also love inspiring and motivating people to start and/or stay on their healthy life journey. I want women from all over the world to know weight loss is possible.

How has your life changed now that you have lost weight?
I’m a healthier and happier person now. I recently became a certified health coach and I’ve spoken to people all over the world through my Facebook weight loss page (@TamikoWeightLossJourney).

Do you have any advice for others who are trying to lose weight?
Find something that works for you and stick with it. There will be good and bad days, but you have to hang in there. Never let naysayers stop you from working towards your goals. Always remember why you started and stay positive. You didn’t gain the weight overnight so it’s unreasonable to expect to lose it overnight.

How did ShapeFit help you reach your weight loss goals?
I love the fitness tips on ShapeFit.com among many other things.

Tamiko’s Weight Loss Tips!

Weight Loss Tip #1:
Use a diet tracking app such as MyFitnessPal or a food journal to keep track of your eating habits. It’s so easy to overeat without being aware and that will harm, not help your weight loss journey.

Weight Loss Tip #2:
Exercise, exercise and more exercise! It’s so important when trying to lose weight. It’ll not only help you lose weight, but it will also improve your mood. It’s also important to switch it up. Don’t do the same exercises all the time or you’ll become bored. Variety is the spice of life when it comes to fitness also.

Weight Loss Tip #3:
Drink your water! It’s vital on a weight loss journey. Staying hydrated is so important. Water is my drink of choice and I never leave home without it because it has so many benefits.

Weight Loss Tip #4:
Don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s. We’re all different and it’s easy to lose focus when you’re comparing yourself to someone else. Just because someone else may lose weight faster, or can exercise longer, doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong. Keep your eye on the prize!

Weight Loss Tip #5:
Take a lot of pictures! Your body changes so much when you’re losing weight and seeing it with pictures can be so inspirational. Besides, you’ll need it for your before and after pictures when you reach your goal!
