Terry’s Weight Loss Interview!

How much did you lose?
I lost 138 pounds in 14 months! I wore a size 22/24 for over 20 years in jeans and in shirts I got up to a size 26/28! Now I wear an extra small!

When did you become unhappy with your weight?
When the ER doctor told me I was fat and I needed to do something about it if I wanted to live long enough to see my grandchildren.

What made you decide to lose weight?
After hearing that from the doctor in the emergency room, I made my mind up to take action.

What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
My diet! I began eating a low carbohydrate diet and avoided high carb and sugar filled foods which means no bread, rice, pasta, cookies, soda and no desserts!

What was the most challenging thing you had to deal with during your weight loss journey?
Learning how to give up bread was very difficult and staying out of restaurants was tough.

How long did it take you to start to see results?
It took me about three weeks to start seeing results.

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
It took me 14 months to reach 165 pounds.

Did you have any issues with loose skin after losing the weight? If so, how did you deal with it?
I do have loose skin, but my husband said that it’s like a trophy from all the weight I lost. I’m currently working out in the pool to help tighten up.

How long have you maintained your weight loss and what are the most important factors for keeping it off?
I still want to get to my goal weight of 150 pounds so I have about 15 more pounds to lose. I’m staying focused on eating a low-carb diet to help get me there.

What keeps you motivated to continue your weight loss success?
I began a weight loss, low-carb group back in July of 2016 and it has over 3,000 members so far. I try to help other people every day to lose weight so they can get off all the medications for high blood pressure and diabetes. I’m also starting a group where I live in The Villages which is located in Florida. I want to help teach low-carb eating to the people in my community. I believe this will help others and continue to keep me focused on following my low-carb lifestyle for the rest of my life.

Terry was featured in her local newspaper The Villages Daily Sun!

How has your life changed now that you have lost weight?
My life has changed drastically! There’s so many things that I can do again since losing the weight like walking and talking at the same time. I’m able to breathe while I tie my shoes and I don’t need my husband’s help any longer. I can get out of the swimming pool using the steps and my knees and back don’t hurt any more. I feel like a new woman after losing all the weight on low-carb and it was the best thing I’ve ever done for myself!

Do you have any advice for others who are trying to lose weight?
My advice would be to get rid of all the junk food and high carbohydrate foods like rice, pasta and desserts. If you just eat real food and focus on high protein meats and vegetables along with drinking plenty of water and exercising regularly, you will feel wonderful! My Facebook page is called “New Body Under Construction The Low-Carb Way” and I offer free advice to anybody that needs help losing weight.

  1. It has been a joy to watch Terry lose all the weight from afar. She has always been a beautiful woman.

    • Hi Donna – Fruit and Greek yogurt are healthy options and you should be just fine eating both of those foods on any healthy weight loss plan. Just don’t overdo it since both contain sugar and eating too much will add extra calories and carbs to your overall daily macronutrients.
