When did you become unhappy with your weight (were you overweight as a child or did you gain weight as an adult)?
I was overweight my entire life. When I was overweight I was taking 5 insulin shots or more a day! I’m now completely off all of my medications. I have truly been given a second chance!
What made you decide to lose weight?
My overall health and a failed marriage were the things that made me decide to make a big change in my life and lose the weight.
What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
Portion control, carbohydrate control and exercise were the most important changes I made to lose weight.
What was the most challenging thing you had to deal with during your weight loss journey?
The emotions and mental battles of feeling defeated while still continuing to struggle with my weight issues were very difficult to deal with.

It took me about 4 years to reach my current weight.

I do have issues with loose skin from the weight loss. I’m working out and trying to tone up those areas with resistance training.
How long have you maintained your weight loss and what are the most important factors for keeping it off?
I have maintained my weight loss for a year now and I’m still working hard at it. I will never stop fighting because my family needs me to be healthy!

Thea’s Weight Loss Tips
Weight Loss Tip #1:
Start small! I started my journey by simply avoiding potato chips along with walking for 30 minutes.
Weight Loss Tip #2:
I found a partner to help me lose weight together and support me which was a huge help! We created a nutrition plan that focused on portion control and carbohydrate control. The support from the other person is a major benefit.
Weight Loss Tip #3:
Never give up! Never say, “I cheated on my diet, so my journey is over.” Just enjoy that little cheat meal and start all over again the next day.
Weight Loss Tip #4:
Never say, “I’m defeated.” What hurts more, hunger or being overweight and unhealthy? Stay focused and you will succeed with your weight loss journey!
Weight Loss Tip #5:
Fight every day toward your goals! Try new meals and workouts to keep things new and exciting.
