5 Fun Ways To Snack Healthier – Nutritious Low Calorie Snacks

Facebook Twitter Pinterest LinkedIn Tumblr Email

Whether you’re preparing snacks for the kids or putting together some snacks for a long day ahead, make sure those treats and mini-meals are healthy and nutritious. Eating healthy snacks throughout the day is one of the best ways to keep blood sugar levels in check and also prevent hunger pangs. You’ll be less likely to eat too much at that next meal when you’re eating at regular intervals throughout the day. Loading up on a few nutritious, low-calorie snacks can help you stick with your healthy diet and provide your body with some essential nutrients.

Here are five fun ways to snack healthier:

    1. Yogurt parfait. This is a great snack food, as well as a tasty and nutritious breakfast item. Low-fat Greek yogurt layered with fresh fruit, granola, and some low-sugar preserves are the perfect combination for anyone craving something sweet. Buy frozen berries so you can make some tasty berry and yogurt parfaits any time of year. Fresh strawberries, kiwi fruit, bananas, and tropical fruits are also tasty options for this yummy treat.
    2. Fruit kebobs. Big chunks of fruit skewered on to pretzel sticks can be a great snack for kids and adults alike. You can cut up fruit like pineapple, apples, bananas, and pears, then just load them up on a pretzel stick as a fun and tasty snack. Serve these with some low-fat Greek yogurt on the side for a boost of protein. Greek yogurt contains almost double the amount of protein than regular yogurt and can be a healthy and filling snack any time of day. Try different types of fruit that’s in season to make sure you’re getting a variety of nutrients in your diet.
    3. fun-ways-snack-healthierPeanut butter and banana sandwiches. Peanut butter sandwiches can be that much healthier when you add some bananas to the mix. A peanut butter sandwich made with wheat bread and banana slices can be a great addition to any healthy menu, and will be your “power snack” of choice when you’re working out later in the day. These are easy to pack and travel with, so make them when you’re heading off on a road trip or plan to out and about during the day.
    4. Tortilla wraps. Whole wheat tortillas make a great snack food when they’re filled with low-fat cream cheese, roasted veggies, grilled chicken, or even some fresh fruit. Make up a few wraps and slice them into smaller servings to enjoy as a tasty snack during that late-afternoon slump. Experiment with flavored wraps and a variety of fillings to create some healthy and nutritious concoctions the whole family will love.
    5. Veggies and dip. Fresh, seasonal veggies served with a low-fat dip can be a much healthier alternative to chips and dip when watching television or even when entertaining. Put together a platter of cut-up veggies with a side of salsa, low-fat dip made with yogurt or low-fat sour cream, and some guacamole. Kids and adults alike are sure to enjoy this healthy and nutritious treat any time of day.
