Have you ever noticed how good things happen when you’re in a good mood? I bet you’ve noticed that when you’re in a bad mood, things just seem to go from bad to worse? This is called the law of attraction and its present in everything we think and do. Whatever you think, you will achieve.
When we embark on a weight loss plan it is as much our thoughts as our actions that determine if we succeed or fail so it’s important to start out with a positive mindset. Set yourself a goal. Start out small and try to begin with a 2 week goal such as losing 2 pounds a week or 4 centimeters off your whole body. It’s small and practical and it won’t bog you down.
Now most people will say, “I write down my goals and I stick my photos on the fridge and every time I see them it inspires me to keep going but still it doesn’t work”. This is because you need to attach some emotion to your goal. Every time you imagine reaching that goal, feel the emotions and the reality of that moment. It’s easy to visualize yourself slimmer but how does it make you feel?
Write down your goals and then every morning and every night read them aloud. Imagine how it would feel to have achieved that goal. Would you be happy, excited, relieved, motivated? Do you feel good having accomplished that goal? Or is there something missing from that vision?
Set yourself an affirmation. Write it on a Post-It note and stick it on your mirror, in your diary and set it as your computer homepage. Make sure to put it anywhere you will see it constantly throughout the day. As you say it to yourself, feel the positive emotions connected to it.
For example, your affirmation could be: Every day I am positively achieving success in my weight loss plan. Each time you read it throughout the day those positive feelings of achievement should come back to you and your goal will draw ever closer.
Decide why you want to do something? What will it mean for you or those around you? Feel those emotions each time it comes to mind until they are ingrained in your psyche.
Decide how you will get there. Is this going to be something you can do? Dream big but make sure its something you feel you can achieve. If you dream too big but inside you’re telling yourself it will never happen; it will never happen. Visualize the reality of those dreams. Again, how do you feel?
Create a vision board. This is a really great way of putting into perspective why you want to lose weight. Put pictures of the things you want to do when you’ve lost the weight. For example, you may want to run a 5K but always felt too big or unfit. Or, you might want to wear a size 10 pair of jeans. Stick on words that strike positive references and photos of what you would like to look like or feel like. Again, each time you look at your vision board it will bring back those positive emotions.
Avoid the lack. Every time you focus on the lack of something you are attracting more thoughts of lack and ultimately failure in that area of your life. It is no different with weight loss. If you constantly focus on the fact that the scales haven’t dropped or you haven’t lost weight that is what you’ll continue to receive.
Shift your thoughts to the positive. If you’ve noticed a change in your energy levels or your fitness is improving then focus on that and continue to acknowledge the great results coming your way.
Gratitude is a very powerful emotion and must come from a position of feeling good. Make a list of everything you are grateful for and you’ll be surprised how wonderful this makes you feel. When you feel good you can only have positive outcomes. For example, I am grateful that I can run, that I feel so much healthier for changing my diet, that I have more energy to play with my kids. Like attracts like and this can only bring more good feelings from your weight loss plan.
Positive thinking is just like working a muscle, it needs to be constantly trained to keep the flow of good energy moving, so test it every day. As soon as one little negative thought (why am I not losing weight) enters your head you are blocking those results you crave. So focus on training your mind to achieve amazing results!
