Can Using Growth Hormone Help To Increase Body Height?

Facebook Twitter Pinterest LinkedIn Tumblr Email

question-icon-newI’m 16 years old and I’m only 5 foot 4 inches tall. I would like to know how I can increase my height. I really want to be at least 6 feet tall in order to play football at the college level. Can you tell me what I should do because I see my friends are all growing taller every month. I feel different from everyone else and just want to fit in. I also want to start dating girls and they all seem to like the taller guys. I have read a little about growth hormone and it seems like it can help people grow taller. I’m willing to do anything it takes to add some extra inches. Will growth hormone work for me?

answer-icon-newYour height is determined by an intricate combination of genetics and environment. This includes your genes, different hormones in your body and the foods you eat. Your growth phase ends at the completion of puberty which usually happens on average around 18 years for boys, so you have a couple of more growth years to go before your growth plates are closed. A nutrient dense diet that includes fresh fruits and vegetables, protein rich foods, calcium based items and water are all factors that will help in the natural process of growing taller. Along with nutrition, sleep is a crucial factor for enhancing height by releasing powerful growth hormones during deep sleep. So, make sure you get at least 8 hours of quality sleep every night to help optimize your growth hormone release.

growth-hormone-bottleYou can also take exogenous growth hormone to help assist in growing taller. Exogenous means “outside the body” and when you take growth hormone in this way, you will be injecting it into your body using a needle and syringe. Before going into the details of growth hormone therapy, I want to point out the importance of speaking with your parents about your concerns with your current issues with your height and your strong desire to grow taller. Ask them to take you to see a pediatric endocrinologist in order to learn more about your possible options for growth hormone (GH) to help you gain additional height. It’s very important that you consult with both your parents and a doctor who is specialized in this area before starting any type of treatment. Your health is the number one thing you need to take care of, so make sure to get the assistance from professionals for any therapy that includes drugs like growth hormone and other medications.

Growth hormone treatment has been shown to accelerate growth, but data on long-term benefits and risks are limited. GH is supposed to help increase height during the formative years (puberty) before the growth plates have been sealed. Growth hormone is a peptide hormone secreted by the pituitary gland that stimulates growth and cell reproduction. It is administered via injection into subcutaneous tissue or muscle to get it into the blood. GH therapy can be extremely expensive and is usually not covered by health insurance since it’s classified as a cosmetic procedure.

There is another drug called Anavar (Oxandrolone) that might help you grow taller and it’s one that you may want to ask your pediatric endocrinologist about to get more information. Anavar is actually prescribed to short statured children to promote linear bone growth. The way it may help is by increasing the efficacy of growth hormone therapy, so your doctor might stack these two drugs together to create a synergistic effect. Make sure to discuss every possible option with a qualified medical physician who is specialized in this area of therapy.

I’m 20 years old and my height is 5 foot 5 inches. I want to increase my height badly. Can you recommend a good supplement?

Ravinder – Unfortunately, there are no supplements that will increase your height. At 20 years old, you are most likely out of your growth phase which occurs around your teenage years. If your parents are smaller in stature then your genetics are most likely geared to this body size.

I am 15 years old. My height is 4’7″ and my weight is 69 pounds. Do I need growth hormone injections or other supplements to help me grow? How much will it cost?

Hi Vansh – You should contact a local physician in your area who specializes in growth deficiencies and schedule an appointment with them. A professional opinion from a qualified physician is needed to provide further recommendations.
