Overview:
Rootz is a supplement company based around the Paleolithic “Paleo” diet and their products are made from real, wholesome foods. The two products we reviewed include the Paleo Protein-Superfood and the Paleo Energizing-Superfood. The protein supplement we tested is a post-workout product that comes in a chocolate banana nut flavor and the energizing supplement is a pre-workout product with a raspberry lemonade flavor. Both of these supplements are:
- Dairy Free
- Soy Free
- GMO Free
- No Coloring Added
- No Artificial Ingredients
Ingredients:
When it comes to ingredients, this is where Rootz really shines. Most of the products you will find on the shelves at your local nutritional supplement store are packed with artificial ingredients, preservatives, fillers and additives. Not so with Rootz. A quick look at the nutritional information on the back of their products displays an impressive list of high quality nutrients. If you’re looking for true all-natural supplements that consist of the best ingredients with absolutely no artificial ingredients, then these Rootz products are as good as it gets.
Paleo Protein-Superfood
This is a post-workout protein supplement that includes a blend of egg white protein, hemp protein and Sacha Inchi protein. Sacha Inchi seeds are harvested in their native Amazon environment from star-shaped fruit pods and the name means “The People’s Seeds” in the Quechua language. This is a complete protein source because it contains all nine essential amino acids. Hemp is a distinct variety of the Cannabis sativa plant. Don’t worry though since hemp has no measurable levels of the psychoactive compound tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the cannabinoid most known for its psychoactive properties. Hemp protein powder is made from the seeds of the hemp plant and these are a powerhouse when it comes to protein with at least 20 amino acids. Egg white protein is considered to be a near perfect source of protein because its amino acid pattern most nearly matches that needed for human growth. It has a very high biological value (BV) of 100 which measures a protein’s overall absorption and utilization quality once consumed. It’s also great because it’s a medium-digesting protein which acts over a longer period of time.

Paleo Energizing-Superfood
This is a pre-workout supplement that provides the energy and nutrients you need to perform high intensity workouts. It’s packed with high quality vitamins and minerals along with plant-based energy enhancers (120 MG of caffeine per serving) to give you a powerful boost when you need it most. Over the course of the two weeks we tested this product, an energy boost was definitely felt before and during workouts with just 1 serving taken. The great thing is that the stimulating effect was very different from other “pre-workouts” which are loaded with extremely high levels of caffeine and usually cause a “panicky” or “wired” feeling. The Rootz pre-workout supplement had more of a “clean” and linear stimulating effect that felt very natural and not artificial.

Taste:
The overall taste of both supplements was on par with an all-natural superfoods supplement. The taste was “earthy”, especially with the energizing pre-workout supplement which was expected from a product with so many superfood ingredients. The protein powder tasted very good and the chocolate banana nut flavor was pleasurable. There are definitely better tasting protein supplements on the market, but those delicious supplements are usually the ones packed with tons of artificial ingredients, so it’s really comparing apples and oranges.
Mixability:
Both supplements mixed very well when using a blender (NutriBullet). Several times, we actually mixed both the Paleo Protein-Superfood and Paleo Energizing-Superfood together (1 serving each) for a pre-workout shake. This was consumed about 20-30 minutes before a workout and provided high quality protein along with a nice energy boost for high intensity training in the gym.
Price:
The price of these products, as of the date of this review (December 2016), are:
- Paleo Protein-Superfood (20 servings): $54.99
- Paleo Energizing-Superfood (30 servings): $54.99
This might seem like a lot of money when compared to other protein supplements and superfood products on the market, but remember that you get what you pay for. When it comes to finding completely all-natural supplements that are free of chemicals and artificial ingredients, it’s hard to find products that are as good as these.
Overall Rating:
We enjoyed testing both of these Rootz supplements for our review and we think that these products definitely deserve a rating of 5 out of 5 stars for their high quality ingredients, taste and overall benefits for anyone looking for all-natural supplements that are 100% Paleo diet friendly.
