drinking coffe
I have noticed and heard that some diet plans to lose weight recomend to avoid caffeine intake. How much of this suggestion has a real effect on losing weight? Does caffeine intake really slow the losing weight process? I know what we add to our daily cup of black coffee increases our weight but what about plain black coffee?

Re: drinking coffe
Hummm. I drink mine black and it has no cals that way. I sometimes drink a cup before a workout if I'm dragging that day. To much could get in the way maybe. If constriction of blood cells comes in to play then less blood to the heart, less oxygen throughout the body..... I would think moderation is the answer here.
Re: drinking coffe
Really? I always thought having caffeine helps you loose weight. I mean, look at all the fed diet pills out there… they are loaded with caffeine. I think some people who drinks coffee for caffeine tends to load it with sugar and cream which makes it fating perhaps. I like mines simple black coffee!

Re: drinking coffe
Caffiene causes undesirable effects.
1. It blocks Iron, and as Iron is the main player in Red Blood Cell, (Erythrocyte), production it could incrase Anemia risk and it would also reduce Myoglobin production, the substance that helps store Oxygen in muscles
2. It constricts bloodevessels, reducing Bloodflow. So both 1 and 2 are not good for aerobic activity, as less Oxygen when breaking down Glycogen, can increase Lactic Acid production, though it should be stressed that L A is taken to the Liver and eventually dissolved.
3. Too much can increase heart attack risk and cause Caffeine poisoning.
4. It can cause Stomach Ulcer and Heartburn
5. It can cause jitters.
6. Being a Methylxanthine, (as are Theophylline in Tea and Theobromine in Chocolate), the Xanthines in it can be converted to Uric Acid, which collects round the joints in crystals and contributes to Gout. This conversion to Uric Acid, is also possible with Nitrogen in Amino Acids / Proteins.

Re: drinking coffe
Yes, Coffee has Caffeine, which is the big downside, but people put a positive spin on it by bragging about the Polyphenol antioxidents in it.
Well why not have Resveratrol in Grapes, or Vit C, (Ascorbic Acid), Vit A, (retinol A), Flavanoids, in Legumes, Veggies, Fruits and Grains, which includes Catechins as well, Pycnogenol, (derived from Pine Bark), and possibly a few others I'm unaware of or cannot recall of the top of head.

Re: drinking coffe
I wonder how long it takes to get over being ill in the mornings with out it. I love hot tea but I don't about it instead of coffee. Anyways, most of what I drink has caffeine. Where did I see the post you wrote about decaf.? I'd like to read that before I take the plunge.

Bossman,
I've noticed your posts include a lot of biochemistry...did you go to professional school or just really smart?
Regardless, we're all very impressed!

Re: drinking coffe
No, I just did some research on Caffeine a while back
The internet is a wondeful thing, if you ignore the fact it's got sites, spammers and anti-social, big mouthed a-holes on it

Re: drinking coffe
I think when you drink your coffee black without sugar this shouldn't be a problem for a diet, although I guess that the caffeine isn't very healthy and could hamper the success.
But I don't want to live without cup of coffee in the morning! It's important to me and a reason to stand up in the morning.
I don't want to pass on everything
