Had an awesome ride! It was a tough, very hilly ride - a couple of hills I didn't know if I was gonna make it or not  but I dug in deep and just kept pushing forward. These big calves are good for something!! Reached a speed of about 45 mph on one of the downhills  I just held on for dear life....I tried at one point to move finger towards the brake, but any movement, even just finger, made bike wobble, it was crazy, scary, and totally adrenaline filled! I loved it. Had a great ride overall - already planning on doing the 55 miler next year.

Great job! I couldn't do it - I am terrified of bikes, so downhill at that speed would probably make me pass out  Now you have a year to train for the 55 miler :D

Thanks!! Jocelyn it's scary but I love it. I really am a much better cyclist than a runner. But I am a runner at heart.

Becky, I wear the clip in bike shoes. Love them.

oh aching legs....

They aren't sore, they hurt as in pain. Guess I pushed harder than I thought! Oh well, as they say, go BIG or go home! It was worth it. Loved the feeling of riding fast - it is addicting!
Feeling blessed today that I can do the things i do. And hoping that I can for many years to come! As i always say......I still feel like best race is still out there waiting on me to create it!

Did they have drafting in your race? do you particpate? I'm glad that they don't have drafting in triathlons. when i rode across minnesota back when i was a teenager i particpated in drafting. and someone had a bike accident in front of me so i slowed down and then the people behind me also had a bike accident!  I felt really bad! it was first and last time drafting! it was because i braked and they didn't realize it. no one luckily was hurt.

i think it's awesome that you do what you do all your life and at 50 and probably for the rest of your life! i hope i can say the same. :)

There were no rules about drafting in this bike ride. Since it wasn't technically a race (wasn't timed and no awards) everybody was pretty free to do what they wanted, ride the way they wanted. :D
I always worry in a triathlon that I will "draft" another rider and be disqualified. It's hard to keep that 20+ feet between you and the rider in front of you. And if you want to pass them you only have 15 seconds to enter the "drafting space" pass them on their left, then get in front of them.

Well, Joc and Becky and others inspired me to put a new pic in profile pics, showing where I'm at shape wise. Lots of work to do. Not sure i will ever be happy with shape - but I AM happy about health and strength and physical capabilities. So I guess that is more important. I shouldn't be so hard on body...afterall it is what carries me thru all the running, bike racing, triathlons, and just life in general. :D

Monday workout: 3 miles
Tuesday workout: 3 miles w/HIIT pickups every other 1/4 mile

Monday menu:
B: ham & grits
L: Bologna sandwich, chips (long story)
D: Pb & J, chips

Tuesday:
B: bacon & 2 fried eggs w/parm cheese (1" cube grated)
L: Steamed sweet potato, chicken breast
D: Pb & J, chips

Struggling this week with food. The chips are totally a stress induced comfort food choice and I need to get a handle on it. :?

i thought of you today Lynne.

i had a spoonful of peanutbutter and then i right after that tried some strawberry chobani yogurt. It actually tasted like PB and J! i know it sounds kind of gross to eat them together but tasted good. i don't eat PB and J much but i know they are a fav of yours.
