Start of a new me!

Post by eyesofblue »

I just turned 25 and I'm sick of being overweight so I've decided to do something about it, and I think joining here is a start!

I'm going to the gym tomorrow to get a membership and goal is to go everday for at least 30 mins up to an hour of cardio on different machines.

I also plan to do strength training for 2-3 times a week...

In terms of eating, I've tried the atkins diet, the south beach diet and weight watchers and find that weight watchers is the best one for me, since i don't have to cut out entire food groups, only i find that i tend to eat too much sugary foods, even if i eat within points...

i've heard of having one "cheat day" or planning to have one dessert or treat a week, and not the rest of the week, have any of you tried this??

I have two weddings comming up mid july and I'm currently a size 18/20 and I'm wondering how much weight or sizes I can loose before then? I know it is something that is going to take a lot of time, as I weight 290 pounds! :(

And healthy BMI is 165-170 but doctor said that she would be happy if i was even 190!

SO that's 100 pounds! :( It feels like such an impossible task and it seems like i always "fall off" the wagon and go back to not exercizing and eating junk...

Any suggestions??

Any suggestions and encouragement would be wonderful :)

meals

I don't eat breakfast all the time, when I do it's usually around 9am, and I usually have oatmeal (little packets) with 1 % milk and fruit, and yougurt or a big bowl of cereal with the milk and a yogurt and fruit

then I usually eat lunch around 1pm or so, and I have a wrap with meat, veggies and sauce e.g. a subway wrap, or a 6inch sub and a yougurt

I have dinner around 9pm and I'll have a box of phad thai (rice noodles and sauce with two eggs) and a small mixed green salad w/ crasins and basalmic vinagrette or sometimes I'll have fish or chicken sauted in olive oil with a caesar salad.

I usually endulge in chocholate in a bar of milk chocholate or go have gelato or get a piece of reduced fat orange creme coffee cake at starbucks and I get a lite caramel frappichino tall size with that...

I'll often eat after dinner, while watching tv and tend to eat too much!

On the weekend, or at the movies I usually have a can of pop, a package of candies (e.g. skittles) and a bar of chocholate.

I try not to buy pints of ice cream/frozen yogurt/etc. as I always end up eating the entire thing!

It's the same with any sugary foods really, once I start I can't seem to get enough! For example, I'll start the day off with a bowl of honey nut cherrios and by the end of the day i'll have had:

milk chocholate bar, lemon square, ice cream cone, 2-3 fruit flavored yougurts, and maybe some candy.
(on a bad day, usually).

I can see from above that I do eat too much sugar! :(

Today, I started things off on a better note though, I'm eating 1 pkg of optimum zen organic oatmeal with a shredded apple and a glass of ice tea (o cal).

Okay, I need to clarify something with you.

I realised before, you're the person saying you ate some sort of Burger, and a Chocolate drink for dinner, and I gave you advice elsewhere on the board, so I need to know if this plan is a seperate one for today, or the actual plan.

I'm a bit confused.

- ww allows cheats doesn't it as long as you don't go over your points total????
- try interval cardio as prescribed by me in another post of yours instead of 60mins slow stuff
- don't do cardio in place of wts
- the idea of ww is to actually try and eat the most amount of food within your points...in order to do this you need to choose low point food which is usually going to be protein, veg and / or salad choices...if your only getting 2 meals and using up all your points than your not relly trying to do it properly
- you need to make a total life change if your doctor is happy for you to be at 190
- if you wree to have 1 meal for the day, make it breakfast and a good one as soon as you get up even if your not hungry...after 1 - 2 weeks you will be hungry which is what you want
- your breakfast choices when you do have it are good so continue with that just have it when your suppossed to
- no wraps, bread, pasta or rice unless you really need to at work or something but than make it brown / wholemeal / wholemeal bread not wraps or even better just oprotein (meat, eggs, fish etc) and salad, veg etc
- your not feeding yourself enough during the day which is why your eating shit before bed...don't even stock this at home so you can't easy acces it
- don't eat while watching tv it has been scientifically proven (not sure where) that you eat more when you do...something about yuor brain turning off when watching tv or something
- don't try, just don't do it

Thanks for your advice guys and taking the time to offer advice, i really appreciate it! :)

I just started up a daily food/exersise log on fitday.com and I'm making sure I don't go over calories per day (2200) and I am now eating breakfast everyday, including fruit before it...as well as the other reccomendations!

Protein / Carbs 4 calores per gram

Fats 9 calories per gram.

All you need to work them out yourself. Fitday is poor, it miscalculates stuff, sometimes by 100-200 calories a day.

I've heard this before, and seen evidence of it. Better working this stuff out yourself, helps educate you, and build up Maths more. Not that I'm saying you're stupid, but for the mental stimulation, working stuff out yourself, is better :).
