Help A Skinny 15 Year Old Meet His Goal

Post by ColonelMoose »

Hello guys. I'm 15, about 5' 6", and around 105 pounds. When I was young, I was very underweight and was in the hospital sometimes. I've been more stable for nearly the past 10 years being borderline underweight. Well, its really annoying me and I want to be able to do things with life like play on junior varsity football next year with friends who are at least height and have 25+ pounds on me. So, by next September, I would like to gain around 20 pounds of muscle.

I can't go to the gym because nobody in family goes and I'm too young to drive or get a membership myself. But I do have a bar and 100 pounds of weights, and protein at 76g per serving which is 2 scoops and 16oz of milk to make a monster 650 calorie 76g protein mass gainer. So I think with barbell set I can do things like bench, deadlift, squat, rows, bicep curls, shrugs and calf raises. So hows a good way to get started?

Sadly, I can only have either 20lbs, 30lbs, 50lbs, 70lbs, 80lbs or 100lbs on at a time. So right now, I can only bench around 30lbs, squat 70lbs and deadlift 80lbs. I did 4 sets of 30lbs benching and arms got a little sore towards the end of each set, but it quickly went away and chest didn't get sore at all. The only exercises I really feel a noticable tiredness in muscles from is rows, shrugs and bicep curls. form is near perfect and I can't really notice anything wrong with it. Is that alright?

Can someone please give me some tips or tell me what to do on what days?

Hi Matt, good to speak to you.

How long have you been training at home, as it looks like you might be possibly overdoing it a little, if you're relatively green at this stuff.

Certainly however there's scope for change, so don't forget that because I'm proud of you for taking these steps and you should be too :).

you should be careful, as you are still young...don't exaggerate, as it could influence your growth (of your bones, not your muscles;) )

I honestly love when i see teens who have the drive to workout!! I wish i knew then what I know now. So i would like to give you some of input. Take it or leave it man, but I want to lay it out there for you. Eat, Eat, Eat. Gaining weight is all about eating. First and foremost take care of your body, FEED IT. As far as protein goes dont go crazy with it, I'd say no more than 1.5g x lb of bodyweight, So 100lb 150g per day. Protein/carbs before workout protein/carbs/sugar immediately after.
Now weights..For now stick with the lighter weight and focus on the muscle and how it is working NOT the weight. Once I learned that i broke thru plateaus. hope this helps brother
