not sure what the problem is.. pesky bf% maybe?

Post by the east coast man »

hey guys,
since january, i've been trying to get abs to show through without flexing. i have been on a diet (though, true to what many say, it's more of a lifestyle), lift, run/jog everyday since january. but no matter what, it seems, abs just don't show through unless i flex them. what am i doing wrong and how could i correct it? thanks, if someone could answer.
if you need any schedule type things for diets and such, just ask.

I wish I could get mine to show by flexing! I still have a ways to go.

What is your BF%? I suspect that is the issue.

sorry for the absence from the site for awhile. just been a little busy.

umm... not sure what bf% is. that's one thing i've been wanting to figure out and i'm not sure how to do it. i'd guess maybe 10-12(?).. but i may be wrong. i dunno. any suggestions on how to find out?

how long do you think it would take, christopheel? i don't see this going away by the summer time but maybe next year?

i made percentage from sophmore year when i was in wrestling for 4 days till mom MADE me drop grrr .... I was 165 and they said safe weight i could drop down to was 135... i was a fat kid with little muscle lol... im guessing bf% is around 13 now but i have no clue... i've ben trying to get abs to show through but even when i flex mine only faintly show.... there very well defined if you feel through the layer of fat though... arms and back are very well defined and im not sure why... i think the big thing is try to not take in alot of fat calories and transfat and saturated fats... fats in general try not to take in alot but dont forget to keep healthy about it

fats are fine to keep in, simple carbs are not unless after training or at breakfast..that's where the problems lye

Well probably to some extent Saturates, although good Fats have more benefits, like helping to lower bad Fats for one, and helping to reduce Fatty buildup in the Heart, think HDL Cholesterol, versus bad LDL.

Also Unsaturates I'm 99.99% certain have no Nitrogen, which means less issues with Uric Acid buildup from the Nitrogen conversion.

You also son't want to remove a lot of Fat from your diet, as your body could crave it, and also unless you cut things like Fat of Chop style meats, Butter portions from Potatoes, Toast, Corn on The Cob etc etc, you are limited in your attempts to reduce pure Fat levels, so anything you cut out in the way of Saturates, would mean lower food portions depriving you of things like some Protein, Carbs, and some Vitamins and Micronutrients.

So the answers possibly are.

1. Replace the lost Carbs and Proteins, and possibly increase good Fat intake to provide something like a maintenance situation, but with a healthier outlook to meals.

2. Replace some of the Fat calories, with extra Proteins and Carbs, and have a smaller deficeit.

Also as said, simple Carbs should be limited, as too many high Bloodsugar spikes on a long-term basis, could lead to Diabetes.
