friend is dumb...

Post by silent1029 »

we're both the same size give or take, 5'8"-5'9", 145-150 lbs. we both go to golds gym. we both have the same goal which is to get bigger. he NEVER uses free weights or does compound exercises. hes always on machines that isolate 1 body part. oh yeah he also does 1 body part a day. i tried telling him that he should do exercises like bench, squat, etc. that are full body exercises but he insists on just listening to what some lady that works at Gold's Gym told him. how can i convince him that full body exercises are the way to go?

explain him that first :

Compounds move touch many joint (2 or more) witch boost metabolism, help your body to releash growth hormone/testosterone so increasing muscle growth.

Tell your mate that if he train during 30mins + only on biceps (aply to any muscles) he'll waste his time overtraining is arms ...

Free weights means you are Destabilized witch means, more muscles uses as stabilizater witch meann more anabolic hormone releash + a better posture + many other benefits ! (like saving tons of time too)

lady's told him ? she must have big boobs, you're out sorry ... that's the default when argumenting with 15 yrs old virgin ... if he's not 15 then :

tell him that Mike Menzter loves FB workout ...

If after this he dosen't want to give a shot to at least destabilized weights ...

Tell him to google "benefits compound exercises" .

Also, tell him to watch you as you get bigger while he stays the same.

He'll follow you soon enough after seeing your overall growth and comparing it with his own.

I think I've seen guys like him.

I saw some kid on a Bicep Machine recently, (A BICEP MACHINE errrggh, when you have so many ways to train Biceps with Benches, Cables, Bars and DB's  ), and he was standing up not sitting down, and was almost lurching over the Arm rests, stupid little idiot.

Most of them don't know crap. They use bad form, too much weight, lie about having lifted more the week before, to excuse 3 crappy reps on a Smith, and just use Machines DB's and Bars, for no real reason, no structure, no understanding.

I did see one using a Cable Row, with good form a few weeks ago, although funny how a few days earlier, I clocked him in the corner of eye, spying on me, when I was using it. I'd wondered how his form had gotten better. Nice smooth one handed technique, straight back, no leaning back 160 degrees, overloading the stack crap, which I'd never do.

He'll find hmself totally in the wrong, when he's moaning to you about how he might need Creatine or Steroids, or some such thing, to help him get his Walnut sized Biceps, Boiled Egg sized

Bossman : What you are saying (the spying thing) , i ve'seen many times (well, when i was bigger  ). I don't understand why people are afraid to ask and have to guess.

And you are right, he will come looking for steroids, creatine, protein shakes and he will want to add some more sets in his routine. All i know, is that the gym i am subscribed to (biggest chain in Greece) gives routines with 32 sets per session, bodypart splits, no squats or deadlifts especially for begginers and a total of 160 reps per bodypart. That's how i progressed very little in 2 years time. But i am a stubborn smartass, and started googling things, which brought me here, finally i experience sustainable progress. 8)
