protein bars as meal sub?
is that such a good idea?
cuz see when i eat, sometimes i kinda eat too much rice(asian) LMAO and i kinda wanna lower the carbs on diet.
i also read christian thibaudeau went on a no carb diet and got substantial gains. so i guess even on a low carb diet you can gain alot as long as ur protein intake is high? whatchu guys think??

Not all bars are full of crap and sugar. You guys should try looking around at some. All natural protein bars are becoming more popular and the ones full of crap seem to be less popular. People are starting to realize something isn't healthy just because it's labeled as a protein bar. grocery store has more natural, healthy protein bars than crappy ones these days.
Take a good look at the label. Low on sugar, no high fructose corn syrup, no hydrogenated oils, natural ingredients. favorite are Elev8 Me bars. They are just whey, dried fruit and nuts. Really convenient way to get a clean and healthy meal.

Low Carb pretty much puts your body into burning ketones. You can body build that way but I think I read that it is hard and not for everyone. There are 2 sides to every issue. The main question is are our bodies designed to be using fat as a primary source of energy or carbs. One would think that carbs is correct and the other idea is crazy. Do we really know for sure? Perhaps neither is correct and our bodies are amazing enough to survive on either type of diet. Who knows. All I know is going low carb can be dangerous if you dont know what your doing.
I agree with others that there are some "Ok" bars. I think most of them are crap though. I've never felt good eating any of them. Maybe your better off trying something like Nature Valley or Kashi types. The ones that are more nutty and have the trail mix type of ingredients. Stay away from the PowerBar type things and other bricks.

That's not strictly acccurate. The body produces Ketones, when you go Low carb, and then the body burns Fat. As I understand it, heavy Ketone production from low Carb, certainly with Diabetics, can cause something called Ketoacidosis, where the Ketones store in your blood.com34x wrote:Low Carb pretty much puts your body into burning ketones.
Ketoacidosis, may even change the Blood PH, over time, and become potentially fatal.
So I don't think the body burns Ketones, however the Ketones are produced from Fat Burning.

that's what I doJNicole2009 wrote:I understand the whole issue with being in class during meal time. If you have to resort to consuming protein bars, try making some. That way, you will know exactly what you are consuming and they won't be full of so much processed ingredients.
2 scoops whey
1tbspn pb
1/2 cup oats
add a little bit of water, yum yum

Personally, I'm not a big fan of protein bars, as a last resort, maybe. When I'm at work I pack whey protein and rice cakes with some natural peanut butter slapped on em. It takes 5 seconds to add some H2O to the whey and 5 minutes to devour ricecake. Quicker than chewing those nasty tasing protein bars. Just opinion of course;)
