Low Carb ones are not too great, unless you have a Carb source with them.

You can try to mix in things like crushed Oats, or have a slice or two of Wheatbread afterwards as examples, maybe something like crushed Cashews in it, but then you're getting uneven digestion rate of both, as solid Carbs will take longer to breakdown and absorb.

So the better types are ones with a good Carb already in like Maltodextrin, or a combination Carb like Glucomannan or Palatinose as examples.

I use one with Carbs in it as well. Maltodextrin makes up the bulk, but there is a bit of Pea Fibre.

If I am going home to eat something afterwards, which can happen depending on the day, then I will have a tiny amount after training, to get the recovery ball rolling so to speak, then go home and eat, because if I have a regular serving, then a meal, potentially I'm consuming too much nutrition in approximately a 1 hour space, and the body would just waste more.

So your two basic options are for most folks.

1. Protein and Carbs.

2. Protein and solid Carbs, either seperate or mixed in, depending on the Carb source.

I thought I read from someone on the forum here that it was best to have pure whey right after the workotu, then carbs twenty or so minutes later to minimize absorption time?

protein absorbs faster with carbs and vice versa so have both at once

The only reason for what you're saying about delayed Carbs is, the Stomach has varying ways to breakdown these things, so there may be possible competition. The main enzymes for starchy Carbs and Proteins being.

Pepsin, found in the Stomach and breaks down Protein.

Trypsin, found in the Pancreas and does the same.

Amylase found in the Mouth and Stomach to assist breakdown of Starches, of which Ptyalin, exists in Salivary Amylase and breaks down starches, and Amylopsin exists in Pancreatic Amylase and does the same.

So there might be a possible scenario, where either or both Amylase types could compete, with either or both of the Proteases, Pepsin and Trypsin, depnding on how the body secretes levels of the four.

If you're having a Carb source like Palatinose or Glucomannan for example, (which are simple and complex Carb combination), then you will secrete transferases too, as transferases breakdown down Monosaccharide, Disaccharide and Polysaccharide sugars.

So again possible competition might happen, if you increase Enzymatic reactions within the same timeframe, compared to Whey on its own.

So your assumption that possible purer absorption of Proteins and Carbs, with a staggered consumption time, and therefore possibly less wasteage, does hold some logic behind it.

I personally cannot say if those differing enzymes compete, or just co-exist in the stomach at once, I doubt there's much competition, so I wouldn't worry about it.

As stated by Swanso, the Carbs allow boosted Protein activity, and as you're trying to Elevate muscle Glycogen back up better, Carbs are important, as Muscle Glycogen is converted to Glucose during exercise anyway, so it's only reasonable to assume you need Carbs after training, to get a kind of reverse effect.

does taste pretty nasty but heard good things about it, how is it working for you? alot of people say they take it right after workout then take their whey about 20min after. I mix it because it is easier to drink, lol! that should be fine, right?

Whatever your palate can handle. I mix waxymaize with glutamine peptide and drink whey seperate immediately following workout for fast absorption. No waiting in between. I don't have time cause I'm usually heading off to work.
