How do you Motivate yourself?
I find it so hard to stay motivated at times. Its like Yes, I know i want to lose weight but instead of working out today like I planned I'll work out tomorrow and tomorrow never comes. Or favorite...I scheduled in a day where I could have a "bad meal" (hamburger, chips, pizza) whatever heart desires that day and that day becomes a week! ha ha.
I end up getting mad at myself and just give up.
I haven't been under 200 lbs in over a year. That scares the crap out of me.
I know weight shouldn't determine happiness but it does. I get so depressed when clothes don't fit I just rather not go out.
I don't know how to motivate myself to move ! haha
I want to know how you motivate yourselves even when you feel like giving up...

Welcome to the Forum! Congratulations on making your first step into a healthy lifestyle. The one thing you posted caught me by surprise:

You are so young to be this overweight and it's never too late to begin a new lifestyle. Truth be told, you should really be scared about your current weight. Everyone gets motivation from different sources. But the real motivation needs to come from you. You have to decide what you want, make realistic goals, and make the decision that a healthy lifestyle must begin with you. It's a hard and difficult job, but you can do it. Please PM me if I can help in any way. I would love to be a part of your journey

Hiya and welcome to the forums.
Here is motivation that is all you. Put on your bathing suit or bra and panties and take a pic from the front, the back and the side (full body picture) and tape them to your bathroom mirror. Now you know what you really look like, even the spots you normally don't see. Next take measurements of your body, you can use the tracking system on here to know where to measure and how to properly do it. Next weigh yourself. Write this information down in a book you can always reference. Now every week on the same day do this again. The only way you can truely change any of the pictures or numbers is your diet and workout. If you don't like what you see, you know how to change it. These are your pictures and body measurements, only you can change them. Make that choice each day while you brush your hair and brush your teeth. Make that decission everytime you enter that washroom and look at that mirror. This is the start for you. SO START. You CAN do it, but it was never said to be easy, nothing worthwhile ever is. So what are you waiting for? Here's your invitation to start and join us in bettering your health and quality of life. It will better your self confidence and your ability to live life to the fullest.
cheers

Oh god Linebeck, that's hilarious!LINEBECK wrote:I think of someone I don't like and if I become stronger it will be easier to deck the guy.

Now, Melissa, from another woman's POV (since I don't think being able to deck anyone is a real motivation to you

And...I want bragging rights that I can run 5 miles straight, or by 6:30 AM, I've already run those 5 miles, and lifted weights, and am at work looking relatively bright-eyed and bushytailed.

It's sad, but I get that.HOUSTON TEXAN wrote:You know the game Gears of War? I want to be as big as those guys. That keeps me going.
mirror is enough to keep me going most days, after that, it's adding weight after you've hit a plateau - tonight I went up to 220 10x3 squats, which, to consternation, I am still a little overjoyed because of it.

You know, come to think of it, I honestly do not know why i workout, but im becoming Tired of lifting weights..
so why do i do it?.Its not to impress anyladies or anyone for that matter.. i think its because it reduces stress levels, on top of that i want to be STRONGER , i want to feel like a warrior and that gets me going!

Yea, I can relate to that! I love feeling strong and healthy; I could take over the world! But really, sometimes you do need a bit of outside motivation. Most people out there don't take care of their bodies, and it makes it very easy to slip into an unhealthy lifestyle. I believe in goal-setting for motivation. However, most people recommend small goals; I, on the other hand, find that grandiose suits me better. One goal of mine, for example, was to be able to beat dad and brother at arm wrestling. I did it, too! I was 23ish at the time (and a girl), and dad and brother were both fit, healthy, and aprox 48 and 21 years old, respectively. Ha! current goal is to compete in first figure competition. Maybe after that, goal will be to place in the top 10! That, for me, is far more motivating than, say, losing 5 pounds.
