Don't eat after 8? Bad or good advice

Post by BigChris »

Everyone knows that the best way to eat to maintain a healthy weight is to eat 5 to 6 small meals a day.

By eating smaller meals throughout the day your metabolism keeps running and burning calories at a constant pace.

While I agree that carbohydrates should be cut around 5. But meals that are full of lean proteins are great after that time.

So question is....Will a meal after 8 actually keep your metabolism running faster throughout the night?

I think that it will. It makes good since to go to bed with your metabolism racing instead of slowing down.

I purpose that maybe you should eat a small meal full of lean meats, and not really any carbs, after 8 at least 30 minutes to an hour before bed.

What do you thinK?

I cannot even get to bed till around midnight every day. Of course I must eat after 8! I agree with Chris, it keeps your metabolism running during the night, just keep it a lean protien meal. Also, it will help your muscle restoration while you are sleeping.

okay maybe 8 pm was just because of sleep and work patterns. Lets just say should you eat 30 minutes or an hour before you go to bed?

Well there is this theory and if you don't like unsourced information don't read the next:

- It is said that between 8 p.m and 4 a.m for most people body is going through cleaning phase. Where body cleans all unnecessary stuff, and that eating during that time, process is slowed down, or is not efficient. It really doesn't have anything with metabolism. Eating at anytime of day doesn't affect the metabolism, but eating schedule does.

I guess I really didn't answer your question, but that's because I really don't know the answer.

i eat right before and often, in bed before going to sleep...fish and veggies everytime w/ a little bit of chocolate and 2 - 4 fish oil capsules...no problems

not so sure about the cleansing thing...who says this and why only for "most" people??

the way you look has everything to do with metabolism

Hate to sound sniffy as I'm not trying to be, but yes it does. Your Metabolism would work differently for a while, depending on what you ate.

Also as the Thyroid produces a Calcium regulating Hormone called Calcitonin, the levels of Calcium in your Meal could in part dictate how your Metabolism operates.

Also your Metabolism would be significantly affected by eating, because if you didn't eat when in a nutrient deficeit, you would force the body to live of Muscle and Fat, whcih really does a number on Metabolic health.

If you want to say eating doesn't negatively affect the Metabolism, then it probably could, but you'd need to eat a shed load of crappy calories.

Like I said not trying to sound sniffy, I appreciate your input.

EAT!!

Post by MikeyRichmond »

You absolutely MUST eat after 8pm, unless you are going to bed at 8:15pm! When you go to sleep you are fasting, your body is clearly not consuming any calories.. If you increase this fasting time by not eating before you go to bed you are only going to store body fat because your body thinks it is starving. Some people lose huge weight because they stop eating after 8 pm, but lets not forget that they were eating garbage after 8 pm. Don't go out and order an XXL pizza before bed but having a meal consisting of veggies and protein will only help you reach your fitness goals, not hinder them.
