I find it very hard to believe in that. That might work for someone who never worked out, or someone who is there and wants to maintain muscle mass.
Again, I'm not saying you're wrong, I just can't think how someone who has developed muscle can rip it with 2 or 3 exercises.

well its really more of the knowledge of knowing what exercises work which muscles.
you can do hamstring curls, calf-raises and leg extensions to work your whole lower body. Or you can do Squats alone and work pretty much the same muscle groups at once.
for upper body, you can do bicep curls and cable pulldowns to work your biceps and back OR you can do closed grip pull-ups (or any variation) alone and work both muscle groups.
but it doesn't hurt to do more i guess. but for people who can only be in the gym for half-hour or so, doing the main lifts and compound exercises will probably be a lot more convenient and actually benefit you more.
