Slim-Fast

Post by (Rage) »

Is slim fast shakes effective, or considered good as a protien source? Like after a workout?! Or Soyprotien is better? Or Whey protien? (of any kind).

I don't know, I couldn't get the one I wanted, whey protien, so I thought I'd try this, and see how it goes...So? any ideas? suggestions?

PS: i'm not follwong their diet or anything, I just bought the shake thing, and would like to see how it is. I'm not even taking it for weight loss, since i dont have extra weight to lose...just as a protien shake..sort of. Oh and, i'm not planning to drink it 2-3 times a day. Just one time a day, and maybe every other day, depending...

Not bad, but I don't think they're all they're cracked up to be.

Most of the people on the Ads, never look like they did in the before pictures, and it's not a case of mminus 40-50 lb's and a new haircut, it's one of those sceptical situations, where it's hard to know if the adverts are making you think, the after pics are the same person, to trick you, or they actually are.

The day I see adverts for slimming aids, that include before, "during" and after pics, is the day I'll increase belief in one.

At the moment, I dont trust most of them, enough to say go ahead use it, you'll look great.

Try it and see, but I'm not going to rave about Slimfast.

Thanks, I think it's pretty okay. I just had a drink after working out that had 10 grams of protien, for me ,that's a heaven of an easy 10 grams, cause I havent got much today...!

I think it'sfine, im not following their diet or anything, just the drinks, for now. I like to change, because body is the type once it get used to something, it stops working. I'm serious. So I like to make changes in what I eat, and how much I eat..so that body doesn't stop working properly or get used to one thing for the rest of it's life.

I tried the drinks once, just because it would help on the days that I am traveling at work and just do not have time for a sit down meal. I ended up starving to death! Despite all of the protein, etc, for some reason drinking meals really does nothing for me! I ended up eating a second lunch to compensate....lol

A lot of those drinks might claim to have a good balance of Minerals, Vits, protein etc etc, but some may not be all they seem.

I.E. they may have inadequate amounts of calories, and they may contain very little Fat, and if you're drinking something with about 20g Protein and Carbs, you're only getting 160 calories.

If you were just a sedentary female, in opinion aiming at least for 1,500 calories a day, potentially more like 1,800, you'd need about 9.5 meals portions a day, if every portion you had had 160 calories, and for some that's calorie overkill, because they can't find time to eat that frequently.

A bit like those snack bars they advertise with slim women. They say only 80 or only 90 calories per bar say, and boast about the Whole-grain and "extra added" Fruit, but in reality a lot of Fruit won't digest properly mixed wiht Whole-grain, and 90 calories is an inadequate caloric amount, based on a 6 meals a day, because for 1,800 calories a day, you're then looking at 1,530 from 3 remaining meals, and that's hard for many dieting or slim women, to want to eat 510 calories of healthy food per meal, because the calorie amount might be worrying.

Every Slim.Fast meal has been developed by a team of nutritionists to give you one third of the daily nutrition needed in less than 250 calories – helping you to lose weight healthily, and happily
Problem is, you're then potentially having to eat 3 times a day, two of those meals being Slim Fast, which means you're still getting no nutrition for about 2-3 hours, of a 5-6 hour period between meals, which is not good, or eat 6 times a day, still only get around 1,500 calories, and possibly some Vitamin Toxicity, or Mineral competition, from the exaggerated micronutrient content.

I think what it really comes down to is questioning whether or not Slim fast is a life style change since we all know diets don't work. Could I really live off milkshakes for the rest of life? Doubtful!

So, without being taught proper eating habits, it isn't a surprise people gain weight when they go off it.

If you even get to the point where you lose weight - I think if I had continued on it I would have been eating double the amount because I would be starving after one of those!
