Is it ok for gym instructors/personal trainers to be fat?

I think this is how you will treat the person. If the person is knowledgeable for all the training "theories", then it will be efficient. And also just keep looking at him and thinking that if I do not do what he was telling me to do that body will be me. But if you are thinking that your trainor will be your training partner, then it will be different scenario.
In short, for me trainor is a person that will watch you if you are doing right, monitor your development. And not lift weights nor train with you with you. Just maybe we are mis-interpret the word "TRAINOR" to "TRAINING PARTNER".

There is a difference for sure, but Trainers should NOT be robotic.
I've heard of some that act like you're not entitled to feelings, or a personal problem when you're with them. If Trainers treat clients like a cash machine, then they should be sacked.
I've seen people in gym talking to others, like they're their best mate. Talking to them about their holidays, funny stuff on TV, understanding what they mean, when they say certain exercises really get energy sapping, and not giving the client big balls Marine type answers, about pain is weakness etc etc.
Bottom line is, PT's are dealing with human beings, and humans have feelings and emotions. Clients can't just switch off and act like a robot as well, because some guy doesn't care if your Father's still in hopsital, or you might be facing redundancy from work etc etc, as that's not human nature.
Frankly if anyone came here, and said their tranier acted like a piece of cold steel to them, and wouldn't even crack a joke, or give a damn for a few seconds, I'd say bin them off, and get one with better interpersonal skills.
You'll get more out of a session, with someone who doesn't make you feel, like workouts must be 100% perfect, or the world will end.
You're training to lose weight or other reasons, not win Olympic Gold at the Heptathlon.
You pay them for their time, that should include their human skills as well.
Think about it. Do you go into a shop to buy stuff, and buy from people who talk to you, as if you're a pain in the butt, but they have to talk to you to get paid?
Maybe.
Would you go back again?
Probably not, if you had other options.
Same with PT's.

just a thoght i had when i saw this pop up in inbox...
we just had the australian athletics title meet here in melbourne and a bunch of overseas runners came over including maurice greene (no bolt though - unhappy)...his coach charles francis who has coached most of the past world record holders in men's and womens and ben johnson's old coach, can barely walk he' s so fat and out of shape yet coaches the worlds greatest sprinter's...hmmm
i suppose it's a little ehat they look like, and what they know but also how they can get people to respond to what they want them to do and how they break down best for the client to understand
the worse training is one that trains people the way they train i.e. body builders training everyone for every goal like they would
i also love when people say " mate who mtrains for powerlifting says to do this...", yep good on him but are you a powerlifter? same with great sportsman, great at being told what to do for training, not great at telling other people how to train most of the time

Good point, but a good PT is worth it for some. I don't think a well qualified, personable 120lb female, is going to be no good at training dudes, who want less fat and more muscle.
Sure that kind of guy isn't going to want to be a 120lb person, but I'd hope the individual wouldn't be that sniffy and say no thanks, I want buff dudes only training me

As gay as it sounds i would rather work alongside a buff dude than be told what to do by some out of shape person.
If some hot 120 pound chick wanted to train me for free no way would I turn it down that’s for sure.
If i was going to spend money it would be for the dude seriously. If the fatty has trained some huge people I also might consider it. At least the buff dude knows how he got that way no disguising that.

I personally don't think a personal trainer should be fat - clearly not something that would give me any comfort
BUT, I do think we need more PT's that may be a bit older, fit but older, as many people like myself in their 50's and/or 60's may not feel comfortable with someone who was young, fit and buff! How could they relate? I know it stopped me from bringing fat butt to the gym at one point!
Now it's like a home away from home!
At the end of this month career in banking will end and I'm considering ,once I'm totally fit of course
, getting certified, not to make money per se, but for personal use and knowledge and to help others. I love eating clean and working out and when you have a passion for something and there are clear results you can provide an invaluable service to others in need. It will also keep me on task.

I don't believe any of these coach squat 700. The point is, if he's fat he gotta be really damn strong/muscular to excuse his fatness.thekid24 wrote:he'd have to be a powerlifter not a personal trainer to be fat and that strong.Heelus wrote:if he squat 700 then he can be fat as hell no prob.
besides, how many trainers do you know can squat that much? except maybe poliquin, thibaudeau and cosgrove. and even thib was a powerlifter once.
And yes current (new too) coach as squatted over 700 ... and he'S fatty ahah
i definately dont think that fat people should be trainers.....being a fat person. However i am pretty heavy and i big game hunt and there arent many ive encountered who weigh 60 pounds less then me who can keep up in the woods. Big does not neccisarily mean helpless. Ill cover miles a day over some of the roughest terrain in northern az carrying a rifle and a full pack.
