Any knowledge about how to KILL a sweet tooth.
I think sugar is way of giving pleasure to myself to fill a void. Any ideas would be helpful.

You have to go cold turkey. It is hard, but do not give in to fake sugars. Try it for a couple of weeks. If you have something you can't give up, like coffee with sugar in it, use less sugar (real sugar), no more than a teaspoon per cup and limit your cups of coffee to 1 or 2 a day. Other than that, no more sweet. If you find you have a terrible craving, try some red bell pepper or frozen fruit. favorite is frozen raspberries. You would be surprised at how a red pepper can satisfy your sweet tooth.

Hi beautiful
as a fellow sugar junkie I TOTALLY get where you're coming from
But as the others have suggested the best thing for you to do is go cold turkey then bring it back in as an occassional treat. I gave all puddings, sugary yummy things for Lent and although it was hard as hell it gave me something to aim for, and now I find myself feeling quite ill when I eat tons of chocolate.
At the moment I am eating dates and a few almonds as a snack - and it is seriously AS GOOD as chocolate (and far more nutritious).
also 10 calorie jelly is another fave.
You CAN exercise moderation - hey, if I can, ANYONE can!!
Good luck, lots of love

I've found that if i simply don't give myself the option to eat the junk food then it is a no brainer to turn it down. Don't give yourself the option to have the ice cream, cookies, cake, candy, or whatever it is that you crave. When your husband offers to make a run to the store, don't even consider giving in. It is not an option.
You could also talk to your husband and son about your goals and see if they would be willing to cut back on the sugar when they're in your presence. After all, the junk food really isn't great for them to be eating either. With your son, hes young enough that you could get him on board and start teaching him healthy eating habits, which will come in VERY handy when he gets older.
boyfriend and I have a similar issue; he is naturally very thin and I watch what I eat very closely. We came to the agreement that we would work together as even though he's thin, he has a family history of heart disease. So we rarely have any junk food in the house and instead eat fruit to satisfy sweet cravings. If he does have a sweet tooth he'll grab some candy when I'm not around or simply ask me if I mind if he grabs some sugar. If i'm feeling like I could give in to cravings, I simply ask him to not bring any junk home and if i'm feeling like I can resist whatever he brings then he goes for it. I guess bottom line, maybe talk to your family and see if they'll work with you on this.
As for your resisting cravings, after a couple of weeks with no sugar most of your sugar cravings should go away so it becomes easier to resist. Just get through that first 2 weeks and you'll be fine. Its hard, but as I said, simple DO NOT give yourself the option to give in.
Good luck!

Thanks so much everybody. I appreciate your ideas. 14 year old daughter LOVES her chocolate when she's PMSing and she drives everybody wacky with her cravings. 23 year old son has lost an amazing amount of weight and looks awesome, he's down to 210lbs now. husband doesn't support me because he's always giving in/encouraging weaknesses. We both have heart related issues in our family, and at 41 yrs we should be dealing with taking better care of our health. I'm just tired of it being a struggle. I'll have to try to eat healthier for more energy and start working out with kids. They both want to work out on our heavy bag, so I'll start with that. Then maybe I'll get off butt and CONSISTENTLY get on treadmill and recumbent bike. Can you say LAZY...LOL?!

regarding you 14 yo, i found that taking magnesium took away monthly chocolate cravings. I read this webpage, tried it and it worked

Reorganise your food storage.
Places for theres, places for yours. Then you're less likely to go for it.
If some of it is in cupboards, put stickies on it, reminding you who's stuff it is. Then if you eat any, you could think of it as taking what's not yours.
Makes your conscience a bigger player in your choices then.

Margaret...im still laughing at your 'clean your plate" brainwashing. Im 34, and definitely part of the generation growing up where your parents, especially mom, ALWAYS urged you to clean your plate and eat seconds until the food was gone. "THAT" was considered being healthy since we were all "growing children". ahh, the memories. now father is type two diabetic because he could eat like a horse. to be honest i did too, and sweets, especially SUGAR cereal, was absolute favorite for so long.
As some have mentioned, if you go week by week without the sugar/sweets, honestly----you will eat it two-three months later and think, "why did i like this? its TOO sweet." Its your body's way of saying thank-you for laying off of the bad stuff and giving it what its always wanted for years!
However, regarding chocolate, I think you have to handle that with kid gloves. No more milk chocolate i say. BUT---lindt/hershey's make a GREAT 85% cacao DARK chocolate that will help curb your sweet tooth but still get some healthy benefits from in the high % dark chocolate. Be careful to make sure you know the % of dark chocolate, some dark chocolate claims that and meanwhile its like 40%.

Healthy Snack
You can take Cucumbers and put splenda and cinnamon on them.
In 3.5 oz of Cucumbers you get 10 cals and its mostly water, cinnamon is a natural fat burner also speeds the metablism.
