Can I gain mass over 40?
I'm 43 5'9 280. Finally gonna get motivated and lose weight and get in better shape. question is at age can I still lift to gain mass. I would like to bulk up while losing fat if possible but perhaps I waited to long.

That person could learn about it here.
All the person needs to do realistically is get used to weights, probably a basic TBT ot start, once an instructor had assesed postural issues, to make sure there's nmo underlying problems, and then just perhaps don't go too heavy because he's over 40. Just stick to maybe 80-90% max lifts, but don't go for failure or anything like that, after the initial adaption period.
Keep Cardio to about 2 times a week, 30 minute sessions, and just make sure he's eating enough calories, but not too many.
Might have to eat close to what he's eating initially, with better choices obviously, then scale the calories down, when weight drops, as cutting back drastically might be a bit much, and might promote too much leftover loose skin in the future.

Couple of questions
Not too familiar with terminolgy or abreviations. What is a basic TBT ot? I like the idea of losing the weight slowly to reduce excess skin. How do I figure out what amount of calories I should be taking in for weight? Thanks
I've tried changing eating habits today. They were atrocious, eating out of a machine at work, no breakfast, and junk at night all night. Today I had a bowl of oatmeal with 7 almonds and scoop of protien powder and a multivitamin and glucosamine at 4:30am. 9:30 lowfat yogurt, noon a sandwich with chicken breast and mozerella,3:30pm bottle of green tea and a handful of almonds. 6:30pm meat from a gyros sandwich and another green tea.

(Good enough, although 7 Almonds sounds like a strange number to have.
You could have something else in here about 7:00, as a 5 hour gap between meals is a bit counterproductive.)
9:30 lowfat yogurt,
(Not bad, but need more calories here than that. If you had a Nut Yoghurt, you could achieve that, thne perhaps find something else to have too, like an Apple or Banana as examples. If you did have a high calorie Fruit source, then let it digest for 10-15 minutes, before having the Yoghurt.)
noon a sandwich with chicken breast and mozerella,
(Not bad, but I'd change that for a bit of Low Fat Cheese, as the Mozerella could be a bit fatty)
3:30pm bottle of green tea and a handful of almonds.
(This needs more than just this. Could have a small Sandwich or something like that.)
6:30pm meat from a gyros sandwich and another green tea.
(What's this? You mean you have the Sandwich, and just eat the meat?)
