I prefer push-ups. Unless you need to be able to push more than your body weight, there is basically no need to do bench press. Doing different push-up variations allows you to target different areas of the chest and triceps.

I don't think this is an either/or proposition.

Push ups with high repetitions will give you stamina.

Bench press with higher weights will give you strength.

Bench press with very high weights will give you power.

It is not possible to do push ups with sufficient reps to build endurance.

Exercise involves a lot of compromises. Do you want power, strength or stamina? A bit of strength and stamina? Mix up push ups with benches.

I prefer using the push up stands as they allow for greater range of motion.

I also like to add some decline push ups (feet on a chair or ladder, hands on the floor).

If you are looking for larger triceps try close grip bench press! They really burn your triceps, and improve your strength for bench and pushups! Diamond pushups really engage the triceps too!
