Post by KordaReea »

Hi name is cara (care-a). Im overweight. But the bad thing is im disgusted with body :( . trouble is im in kung fu which comes with military training ecercise. Two of Sifus were in the army and another was in the marines and I eat healthy but no matter what I always gain weight. I have skinny friends and most of the time they tell each other their weight but Im so embarassed with myself  I try to change the subject, so I dont have to tell them mine weight. I cry everytime I go to the doctor and stand on the scale and see what it says. I ask if I can go to the bathroom and just bust out crying. One of favorite things is swimming but I try not to go because of how I will look. I also like to dance. mom tells me that it is a good way to lose weight but it is not working for me either. I decided to lose weight because grandmother ( best friend) who passed away in March of diabetes and heart failure due to being overweight and after all this I need some positive motivation.
Thank you for listening to story

I wanted to say, you should never feel that bad about yourself you get upset.

I just read the things you said about yourself, I.E. trying to learn several languags, wanting to learn more join the military, do Kung Fu etc etc, you are a serious young Lady, (which is what I will treat you like), as opposed to a silly little girl which you're not.

You have shwon in your words that for a young Lady of 13, you are intelligent, motivated, and passionate about things.

I would certainly say the Kung Fu is a big plus, and the attempt to change yourself is another thing you should be proud of.

If you like swimming you darn well swim, because nobody should make you feel badly for who you are.

As for your thoughts about feeling disgusting to want to change, I wouldn't go that far, but until someone recognises, that a negative body image is infact that, they will not change.

I am impressed by your attitude, and what you want in life. A lot of people your age have no idea of their future, and sound like airheads.

You have every ability to get rid of your weight, and be the person you want to be, one thing I would say is, if you are eating healthy, but the weight isn't shifting, the possibility is, you're not eating enough.

You need a good amount of calories as you're quite active. So you would be advised to increase your calories accordingly if this is the case regardsd eating not enough.

I personally would like to see what sort of meals you eat and when you do eat, but for now I will say keep looking forward, and keep believing in yourself. You do sound like a really intelligent, interesting and very likeable person, and I hope that we can in some way help you to be the prson you want to be.

You deserve that, and if you're willing to put time into yourself, we WILL put time into you okay.

So GOOD LUCk, and when I know mroe about what you eat, and when you eat we can progress further, but certainly I would say definitely keep doing the Kung Fu, and if you want to go swimming you go swimming, and forget what others thin about you being there.

Good to have you here :).

What is the best part of your body? I want you to get in front of a mirror and look at the best part of you. I can see in your avatar that you have a great face.Very pretty. Then I want you to have a real good look at yourself and find the positive about you. No more wishing to be something that you are not.

The only way you will lose weight is when you accept yourself. That doesn't mean that you are happy with fat, but that you are accepting of you. When you look in the mirror and like who you see and what you see, the weight will come off. Have you ever gone to the mall or a place where a lot of people gather and see a really ugly person acting like they are 'all that' Or maybe you see someone gorgeous person holding hands with someone who is definitely not a pretty person. Those people see the beauty inside themselves and are happy for it.

I struggled with weight and sometimes hid myself. No bathing suits or tanktops or anything that would show skin. Well it is very boring. I decided I don't care if someone looks at me and talks. I want to swim. I like swimming and missed it. Turns out no one really cared to talk about me, in fact when I looked around there were bigger girls than me at the lake, one in a bikini!

you will see tons of 'diets' and eating plans out there. Skip them. Don't go there. I am sure you know what is good food and what is bad food. Most people who are overweight eat really fast and don't know it. They pound back food so fast that the chemical called serotonin rush to their heads making them high as a kite. Then they eat past being full. They then realize that they overate, feel bad and in a couple of hours do it all over again so they can feel good. Nasty cycle.

Paul McKenna made up these rules and they helped me. He has lots of books and CD's on the market.

rule #1 - eat when you are hungry- when you are truly hungry. If you feel hungry but have eaten with-in three hours, you may be thristy. People get a lot of their water through food and so the body can make you thingk you are hungry when you are thirsty. So drink a glass of water and in 20 minutes, if you are still hungry, eat.

Rule #2 - eat what you want
not what you think you should. If you make a food forbidden, you will want it even more. Instead listen to your body. If you are truly hungry, your body knows what it needs.

Rule #3 eat consciously. Eat only at the table with no TV or music for a distraction, no reading either. Take a bite and PUT YOUR FORK DOWN. Chew each bite of food like you are a professional taster, trying to figure out every ingredient. Chew slowly like 20 - 30 times each bite and leave your fork on the plate until you are done with the bite you have in your mouth. You food might even get cold, but that is why we have a microwave. You might even find things you like, you don't like so much when you are really tasting them for the first time.

Rule #4 when you think you are full stop. Before every bite, think 'am I still hungry?" you may not be hungry, you also may not be sure if you are still hungry. It is okay to wrap up your food and discover that you are still hungry in 15 minutes, warm up your food and eat some more.

I followed these rules and I am losing weight. I am no longer in plus size clothes. You can do this, it actually isn't very hard to do.

It really doesnt matter how healthy you eat, If the portion sizes are still too big that could be an issue.

take out about 500Calories from your daily diet continue your training and try to get a minimum of 30 minutes of cardio in per day.

also if i were you i would go to your family doctor and ask if you could get a test done to see if there were any issues with your Thyroid. If there is, that could be a reason why you would be gaining weight easily.

Good catch on the possible Thyroid connection, but in opinion the 30 minutes Cardio a day isn't necessary. If the person does resistance work, then Cardio for 30 minutes only really needs to be for 2-3 days a week.

you'll never get fat on fruit, veg and lean proteins and plus you can't eat too much of them anyway as you'll be full well before you overeat and go into a calorie surplus

I really want to give you a hug as i have known in the past what it feels like to hate body. In reality though it was not as bad as i thought.

Let us know what you are eating and when so we can advise better. Generally speaking though try to eat 6 small meals a day with good quality protein (chicken, fish, eggs, small amount of nuts etc), slow acting carbs (about a palm size full per meal) such as wholemeal pasta, brown rice, jacket potato, cous cous and lots of nice, fresh veggies.

You are obviousely active so keep that up and if you love swimming i really would say go for it. It probably wont be as bad as you think and you will get used to it and you will feel great afterwards.

Have you any specific questions we could try to answer for you? :D

KordaReea,

As Clair said... If I were there right now I would give you the biggest hug! Reading your post reminded me so much of myself at your age. :(

You seem like an intelligent, beautiful, and mature young lady and I bet you have sooooo much going for ya!

The others have given you great advice... as suggested do post your typical diet so we can help you along. Also, if you ever need some extra support, motivation, or just need somebody to talk to send me a personal message and I'd be happy to help you in any way I can!

Keep your chin up girl! :)
