The documentary highlighted mild parts of surgical procedures, and reasons why the people wanted them.
This kind of ties in with the pressure to look good thread, that was posted some time back.
One person wanted them to help her become a model, no surprise really, as apparently roughly 66% of young females would consider modelling, over a future in Nursing, Medicine and Teaching. Again that doesn't surprise me, as irrespective of intellect, good looks can't be that hard to maintain I don't think, but getting Nursing, Medical or Teaching qualifications are a lot harder.
She had hers payed in half by her parents, as the total cost was £5,000 approx.
The second had hers done at 16. Not legal until 18 here, but she'd had them done in Belgium, so she got around that.
Her reasons were the comparison between hers and her friends.
The Father said why stop her? She'd do it at 18, then spend another 2 years being miserable about it.
I personally don't tink it should be allowed until you're over 21, but that's just me.
I seem to remember a possible case, some years ago before the laws were tightened here, of a 15 year old girl, that may have had it done. This concerns me, as logically you could assume compared to an adult, the General Anaesthetic, could pose more of a risk of death.
What surprised me, was the first one said it went well and might consider another to have it a size bigger. Just sounded crazy.
As ever I am throwing open the debate to anyone, and maybe if it makes anyone with half a mind to do this, think longer and harder, then that makes such discussion meritworthy to me
