Feet are Shrinking!

Post by herblady28 »

When I first started workout regimine after 6-9 mo. I noticed that all of shoes were too big. I have worn a size 8-1/2 since high school. I realized that I was down a half size to a size 8. That was last year.

Within the past few months, I have been noticing that tennis shoes feel like they are slipping on me again. I went shoe shopping this past weekend and I have lost another 1/2 shoe size. I am now wearing a size 7-1/2. I haven't worn a 7-1/2 since Jr. High School.

I also decided to try on some of shoes in closet that I haven't worn since last winter and they don't fit!

Is this even possible!?! This has been the craziest thing.

Have any of you ever experienced this?

I don’t know about shoe sizes… but I noticed fingers got smaller…

Fiancé bought me a promise ring 3 years ago size 6, it fitted perfect. Now It’s loose…..For engagement ring we had to resize it to 5 ¼ … I think it might be size 5 soon. :P

I presume you're talking about about girth not length.

I have not heard of losing foot length in weight loss. Like Boss Man says, maybe it is the thickness of width of your foot that has lessened.
Try taking out the insole of one of the tennis shoes that is too big. It should have an impression of your foot worn in. Place your foot on it, heel at the back and see if you can actually see the top of the insole where your toes would have left an imprint. If you can then I guess your feet are actually shrinking, but if your foot fills the entire impression, then you are probably just losing girth.
Just a thought! If you do try it, please report back what you find...the suspense is killing me!! :D :D

I am not sure if I am losing girth or length. All I know is that I am exactly one size smaller than I was 18-20 months ago. Which I think is a lot!

I will check it out with tennis shoes and report back!!! :D

Okay-definitely probably lost width on feet after trying to wear several pairs of shoes. It is hard to say because I have extra room in the toes and the heels of most of shoes.

I also went down from a 10/9.5 wide, to a 9.5/9 regular, depending on the shoes. Nearby is a new balance factory outlet store, and even though the shoes are the same company, I can fit into different sizes depending on the style. But now all 10's are too big and most 9.5's are loose.

I've got it!!!! I think I may have figured out why your shoe sizes are smaller in length now.
Here's theory:

The more weight our bodies carry, the more force is put on the foot, in effect pushing down on the arch so the foot is flattened out and therefore "longer". Maybe when we lose weight and the stress is lessened on the lower body and feet they are able to go back to their correct shape and length.

I literally had this  moment this morning when i was putting on shoes, and this theory popped into head! Why I was thinking about it, I couldn't tell you...maybe I need to get out more!!!

anyway, just thought I would offer that as an idea. :D

Well-that is a good possibility. Something has happened. I have a really cute pair of open toed 4 inch red pumps that no longer FIT at all. I just wore them to a Christmas party two Christmases ago and now you can't even see toes through the open toed part. It is ridiculous. I have to get rid of them unless I plan on gaining weight back again which I hope that doesn't happen. :D

When I was pregnant with youngest son, I got 1" shorter. dr's theory was that the weight of stomach was compressing spine. But then I got taller again after he was born. Might be along the same theory that you are thinking.

Well the spine does uncompress during rest periods.

It lengthens I think by 3cm at night.
