Lynne - unfortunately I can't access your new photos for some reason, so I'll have to check them when I get back from vaca - but they sound great!! Wonder why the link to your photos doesn't work?!?

Congrats on the inches you lost - I know it's hard but remember the scale and even inches sometimes aren't what's important - you said yourself that you "felt" like more on your waist - I'm sure it is. I know I've said this before but(prior to this trip anyway) I haven't been losing weight but body has definitely changed. I'm sure with everything you are doing all the hard work is paying off.

Way to go!

once chicks start lifting wts actually propelry they will build muscle pretty easily for the next 6 - 8 weeks but after that you'll slow down considerably so keep at til then and get as much muscle out of it as you can

I just remember in high school gym they had "girl" pushups that we could do if we couldn't do the regular ones. The girl pushups had you balance on your knees with your back straight, much easier to do than a full pushup on your toes. I was too much of a jock back then to be caught dead doing a girlie pushup....guess time hasn't changed anything!
I noticed tonight that the planks were easier to do, especially the front ones. I wanted to try the side planks. Not sure about the arm position, I just rested weight on elbow (forearm) turned sideways and raised body up, kept a straight line and held it. I've seen it done with the forearm position as well as up on the hand, straight arm. son was watching me doing these and decided he wanted to do them too, so we had a contest of who could stay up the longest (he won). Then on last side plank set I actually held it for 45 seconds, only because he was on the floor with me, counting aloud for me and saying "come on, you are Rocky! you can do it!!!" I thought I was gonna die, but I held it for 45 seconds then collapsed in a heap and held up hand and he high fived me :D pretty cool stuff!

Push ups - ack! Can't do a single one - need to master those nasty planks first! :) Lynn - I think if you were at gym you would definitely motivate me (need a push, I do) with those awful things. Well, now that I'm back from vaca I've got no excuse!

Great beach pics Lynn - awesome shoulders!

Welcome back Lu!! Thanks for the kind words 8).
Before I start patting myself on the back too much, I had a little dose of reality...We have a pull up bar across a doorway for son to use. He is really committed to being strong and has worked up to doing alot of pullups (palms facing out). He talked me into trying to do them the other day (I used to be able to do 20 or more with ease back in high school  ). For some reason I only feel comfortable doing them with palms facing inward. Anyway...with everything else I'm improving on I thought it would be a breeze. I did ONE! ONE pull up! I failed on the second one! That really shocked me. All the weight lifting in the world will not help me if I can't even lift up own body weight! Humbling to say the least! But it gives me something to work on.

That's another one of those wonderful things I can't do well. I'm up to 5 pull ups with (16) assist - what does that mean anyway?!? 16 ?

Well your both ahead of me then  I tried once, on the bars that seem 20 ft off the ground ?..fear is enough to ground u, why they need be so high up anyway ?..though lol I just kinda hung there, tried to go up & nooooo was not moving.Duno I was readin on figure athletics that u dont often see women doing pull ups etc, that r over a certain percentage of body fat ?..Will try them again, after shoulder issue is figured out.Have a great day ladies ! :D

Lu, what "16 assist" mean? ya lost me there...

Anyway, in searching for an explanation of why I am so pathetic at chin ups, but can do bench press and weights with ease, I came across some wise words from Swanso's site that explains alot. You gotta do the basics well to prepare your body for injury free weight training:

His article reads in part:

Bench Presses are great for upper body strength but you need to “earn the rightâ€

This evenings workout:

warmed up with some slow stretching, toe touches (still hard for me to devote enough time to it...I'm ready to get on with it!!)

3x25 floor crunches
2x25 bicycle crunches
2x20 leg lifts (lowered down slowly, never touching floor, then lifting back up)

2 (yes, I said 2) chin ups - these are kicking butt! I can't stand it!

2x12 Full pushup - floor
1x10 Full pushup - inclined (legs & feet, on toes, in a chair so that head and shoulders are lower than feet) - tough! but felt great, gotta do more of those! :D
Later this week I want to attempt a hand stand pushup  (that should be interesting!)

2x45 sec. front planks
1x30 left side plank
1x30 right side plank

2x15 Seated Rows @ 44 lbs.

2x15 Bulgarian Squats

tomorrow will be cardio :D
