New to fitness

Post by hoosiergrad02 »

I'm putting together a workout/nutrition plan to loose fat and gain body muscle (tone up). I'm 5'11 and 185lbs. I have no desired weight to get to, for the simple fact that I'm new to this. From reading the forum, I've put together a pretty good plan. However, I do have some unanswered questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. Knowing weight/size, how many calories should I be taking in each
day to lose weight? (is there a specific ratio)

2. How many fat grams should I be taking in each day? (is there a
specific ratio)

3. How many grams of protien should I be taking in each day? (is there a
specific ratio)

I'm also going to open up Pandora's box and ask this question. Is there a new pill on the market that helps in fat loss that actually works? I'm currently taking:

1. GNC Mega Man Multi Vitamin
2. Green Tea Pill
3. Chromium picolinate
4. CLA Pill

Again thanks for any future advice....

1. no specific answer to give here, but around 1,800 calories a day, is considered a healthy average target for women.

2. Fat ratio will depend on Protein and Carb ratios. I would say bearing in mind Protein and Carbs are 4 calories per gram, Fats 9 calories per gram, Fats shouldn't be as high as Carbs, and at most be as high as Proteins.

This is dependant on your ratios of Proteins and Carbs as stated.

3. Protein, in the case of dieting, I think should be around 120-150 for a woman, daily.

Which if you eat 6 times a day, should be between 20-25, which is 80-100 calories Protein per meal.

4. Chromium Picolinate is the worst kind of Chromium.

It was supposed to do wonderful things, until many of it's claims were disproved. It has since then been linked very, very strongly to Hair loss, which could happen in women too.

Also it was scientifically proven to slightly mutate Human DNA, over prolonged periods, via indpendant research. Said science being backed up by a Doctor with 20+ years of reasearch, especially into Cancer, and only counter-claimed by a manufacturer, so that can be taken as read.

However I'm not saying it can cause Cancer, the doctor approving the independant research had worked in the field of Cancer.

It also caused Ovarian Cancer in Hamsters. Okay, it's Hamsters, but it still caused Cancer to living tissue, and whilst again, I'm not saying it does cause cancer, that in itself, should be at least a mild concern. It's definitely by far and away the worst Chromium out there.

Chromium helps regulate Blood Glucose, but the Picolinic Acid, oxidises in the Liver.

If you want a Chromium, try a better one like Nicotinate, Polynicotinate, or I think there's one called Chromate.

Also be aware with Multi-vits, as some Vitamins in excess can be toxic / negative.

Vitamin K is.

Vitamin D is I believe, and I think Vitamin A is too.

So if you're worried about getting way in excess of the RDA, for some Vitamins, by taking a Multi-vit, only have half of one a day.

Thanks for the advice. However, I am not a woman. How would this change your advice? Again, thanks for your help.

apologies, I assumed you were a woman, I don't know why :? :?.

Right regards advice.

Point 1. Doesn't change.

Point 2. Doesn't change.

Point 3. I would amend slightly and say about 150-180 grams Protein, and a calorie total of between 2,000-2,500.

Point 4. Doesn't change.
