Cario- Splitting the time
is it ok to weight train in the morning and keep cardio for the evening( I like to Jog and with the weather cooling down its great to go out and get a good jog in the evening) So question is can I incorporate it into the evenings, as I like track jogging(did it all through out school and college)
schedule is
Mondays- Chest
Tuesday- legs
Wednesday- abs
Thursday- shoulders
Friday- back
Saturday- arms(biceps and triceps)
I usually do 10-20 minutes cardio before I weight train.

Re: Cario- Splitting the time
@ Swanson- yep one day for just abs and then dont do abs any other day. we are treating abs like any other muscle group . is that correct ?
@ lesplease- Yep I want to also do cardio post weights, problem is I have to head to work and I just dont get the time. I wake up at 5 30 and try to be in the gym by 6- 6 15 ... start work out, then head home shower eat breakfast and run to work, so question is can i Spilt Cardio in the evenings post work when I can

Re: Cario- Splitting the time
why train 1 muscle each day? if you train them twice a week then that's twice as much training for a year...i would think he who trains more gets biugger wouldn't you?
just a thought

Re: Cario- Splitting the time
When I was training for mountain climbing I lifted early (before work), ran at lunch (5 miles), and rode bicycle (weather permitting) for 20 miles after work. I did that 5 days per week.
On weekends I rode 50 miles each day and did wind sprints afterwards.
This is not a sustainable workout routine. It was done and timed to get me peaked just in time for the climb--about 12 weeks worth of training. After that I cut back.
But the answer is that you can lift and do cardio at any time of the day--usually controlled by circumstances you have no say in. But it is easier to over-train when you train this way so be aware.

Re: Cario- Splitting the time
@Swanson- Thanks for the advise! I will try and put abs into routine. While we are at it I have to ask on the day I train legs Its best not to do Cardio post the work out or any abs ? is that correct. legs are sore after I finish with them(like today)
@Lesplease- I will try and incorporate Cardio post work, so much more fun at own time. Delhi is cooling down after a horrible summer so the evenings are get to work up a sweat without dehydrating myself.
@Packard- Thanks I will try and take note that I don't over train.
Thanks to all you! Ialso need to ask is it ok to do abs everyday? What do u suggest? do upper and sides one days and lower another day or .. train the whole torso one day and also the next(doesn't the muscle get used to the exercise if you do the exercise everyday?) .
Man! there is still so much to learn and I think I need to now switch trainer or get him to set up a new routine. I spoke to him today and he says that he wants to take a bit more time before he starts a new schedule because i have just started with whey and also he wants me to get form right.

Re: Cario- Splitting the time
i do core with legs most of the time and if you've done legs properly then you shouldn;t be able to do cardio either
you could do 1 - 2 core exercises 3 - 4 days of the week, you'll never train core enough really
don't worry about doing "upper, lower etc" the core works as a unit so there's no use seprating them up as they all work when you try and do 1 one them
i'd say switch trainers...i don't know how long you've been with him but the fact your coming to us and not him tells me he's not much good

Re: Cario- Splitting the time
@ Swanson- what do u mean by core?
I am getting a bit irritated that I am not getting the goals that I want, but I am kinda stuck right now, I just started with whey and things seem to change, I am gonna give a bit more time before I decide

Re: Cario- Splitting the time
"Core" is just another term for all the muscles in your torso. That would include your abs, obliques, and spinal erectors. You need to work all of these muscles equally to maintain good posture. You should work them for a full range of motion (in opinion). The core or torso muscles are key to having a healthy musculature.cobaltsunrise wrote:@ Swanson- what do u mean by core?..

Thank you for clarifying, so I can train it everyday is what your saying?

Re: Cario- Splitting the time
I like crunches. Front, side and 3/4 crunches. They work the abs through a range of motion. That in contrast to planks with work the abs with no range of motion at all.Lesplease wrote:Can vs should
I'd go for a couple exercises about 3x/week, stay away from the crunches.
Planks are good for stabilizing the torso and for giving you a flat tummy. But for athletes who want a fully functional core you want to work through a range of motion (and add some speed/acceleration range of motion moves also).
Re: Cario- Splitting the time
On the floor or with a stability ball?Lesplease wrote:I prefer Russian twists ...
Re: Cario- Splitting the time
I don't have any friends. I'll have to try it by myself.Lesplease wrote:with a ball on a ... decline? Sit up, grab the ball, 1/2way down, twist twist, back up to pass the ball off, then grab again. I can do these by myself, but I prefer to do it with a friend. We call it playing catch (:

OK. Pass me the ball.Lesplease wrote:O Packsy I'll be your friend!!
Re: Cario- Splitting the time
you say you hate planks as they don't work through a full range of motion then you like 3/4 crunches?
not all movements are full range of motion, ecspecially in sports and before full range of motion can be acheived you need to stability - enter planks a stability exercise
