How to get rid of these fat hips and thighs

Post by Lindsipettit »

absolute worst problem areas are huge hips and thighs. I have been working out for about a month now and haven't seen much of a difference. Perhaps a half inch from both. What can I do to loose the fat off of these areas quickly?? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

A half of an inch is pretty darn good progress.

I'm sorry but I'm not going to recommend any "quick" plans to help you meet your goals. Quick plans... aka "quick fixes" don't work and only set you up to fail... which causes frustration... which often results in people quitting because they feel like their goals simply aren't attainable. We want to prevent this from happening so we can help you meet your goals. This stuff takes time and a great deal of patience. You didn't put the weight on over night and its not going to come off over night. I feel like a broken record around here lately but the best way to lose fat is a combination of healthy balanced diet, weight training, and cardio.

I know you've been given advice on the diet and exercise side of things already... Do you feel like your plan isn't working? You might take some progress pictures if you haven't already, then take more in a few weeks to a month. These are GREAT for showing how much progress you're actually making. They also work well for motivation.

You can do this. :)

Simple answer is keep doing what you're doing.

Expecting results you want after 1 month is farfetched, (said in the nicest possible way. You basically have lost half an inch of the thighs and lower core in one month, but you're expecting it to have been more than that.

Had it been much more than that, you could have ended up with rapid fat loss and bits of loose skin around the areas in question.

If you still had the same kind of size in anohter 3-4 months from now, then you'd have something to question, but right now there is no reason to think something is amiss. It's been a month, so just keep doing what you're doing and don't get funny about this okay :).

Cassie,
Don't get me wrong.. I am incredibly happy with the progress I have made already. I decided in January that I want a healthy lifestyle. So I started eating better. I'm down 31 pounds already and i'm extremely proud of myself. It wasn't until about a month ago that I started going to the gym. weight loss has been very slow. I wish it would pick up but hey like you said it took time to put it on, so it will take time to come off. I merely wanted to know what types of exercises will target that specific area the best. I have no idea if a half inch is good or not lol. What exactly should I be aiming for as far as inches? To be honest I didn't take measurements before I started this new lifestyle. I was just told to try and go more by your measurements and not by a scale. Well the scale seems to be showing more improvement.

I think that you are right about taking pics. I really should do that. I think that will help me see progress in a whole different perspective. Thanks for advice. :D

Hello. :)

I have no idea how many inches you should be shooting for. Every body responds differently to this weight loss stuff and people lose inches from different places on their bodies at different rates. Just keep measuring and making sure you're making progress. Progress pictures help immensly also to ensure that you're making progress.

As far as lower body exercises go (acknowledging of course that you can't spot reduce or force your body to lose fat in specific areas through certain exercises) lunges, squats, deadlifts, step ups, running stairs, sprinting, plyometrics, farleks, all target the lower body.

Great job! Keep it up!

LOL! Thank you Leslie darling for setting me straight on that. That darn "t" is a sneaky little letter and must have escaped index finger.

Better to miss the t out of Fartleks, than the k. Don't want Les to think we're disparaging her ways

I had the 'phones on but not up nearly high enough. I was doing abwork on a bench, I just crunched up into little ball and *phoot*. I saw at least two people in the mirror stop what they were doing but I just kept right on like nothing happened. It was the single most rewarding work out I've ever had (:
LOL! Toooooo funny! I would have either left the room in embarassment or started laughing. Good for you for not letting it interrupt your workout!

It's not Cassies fault it's the Swedes fault.

If that guy who invented Fartlek Running had been called Doctor Sprints, then none of this would have happened now
