Correct. It's just you. If someone wants to use gloves, for whatever reason (practical or for looks), what's it to anyone else?
let me guess you use gloves right?

girls, people who care about their image in the gym, and sissies wear gloves..
Says the man who works out for the visual result. Ironic? Don't we all care about what we look like?

What also is ironic is calling people sissies over the internet.

And I promise you what I wear at the gym does not constitute what type of man I am.
And if gloves help me deadlift 300 lbs over 275lbs... guess what I'm wearing?

What a meat head response.

Years ago (1970 or so) I would never wear gloves. I had thick calluses that would sometimes peel of in strips. One day I was out at a discotheque (it was that time) and I was dancing with a pretty girl. callous had started to peel and had a barb on it because of the peeling. The barb caught onto a thread on her silk blouse and I ended being out about 2 days pay just to replace it.

Nowadays I wear gloves.

everyone has an opinion.. mine opinions stands based off how i see things.
just like you do,
See you could of replied, just like the others did, As blunt as I came off, they didnt really throw insults out.

WHATS actually ironic.. you stating that I used the word "sissy" on the internet, which was never Directly finger pointed at a certain person in this forum...... but then you called me a meat head... ironic...

first things first, 1. yes we all care about our looks.. but NO I do not lift weight specifically for visual effect for others..
I do it for myself, (small genetic family, with a mindframe that I always wanted to be huge)

I have people telling me to do the up and coming Bodybuilding show. I wont. as for the visual effect, I rarely show body off,

Now 2ndly, calling me a Meathead If you actually knew me, you would know Im far from a meathead,
I actually help everyone out as much as i can, if they ask me for help,

and lastly IT all comes down to opinions and thoughts, some hate gloves, Some love them.. when it comes to me. I dont pussy foot around with words, and i say it Directly to the point. I dont care for gloves and i dont think ladies or gents should wear them.. (its personal preference)
and thats opinion.. as you noticed big guy, no insults were every directly thrown at anyone..
but hey.. since you called me a meat head.. i let you have that for now..

Have fun wearing your gloves deadlifting your 300lbs..
I'll match you with no gloves. nice hands.. doing 425 for reps.. .....

I see sexism still exists, dude I do dead lifts, have callouses & the FIRST thought that came to mind when they started to build was...GOOD now no man will be wanting these hands for a hand job, happy days.

By the way YES your hands hurt after a dead lift, suck it up buttercup !

If you develop heavy calluses and you lift heavy you can rip the callous right off the palm of your hand by friction. I've ended up with a bloody palm from that. I prefer being called a buttercup than rip hands again.

I'm not sure why people are so passionate about this. If you like to use gloves, fine. If you don't, that's fine too. Why do any of you care whether or not someone uses gloves? Sheesh, to stoop to name calling over something that has no effect on others in any way is over the top to me. There are valid points for wearing or not wearing them and depends on an individual. Can't we all just get along?

I posted because I was offended by the mention of " girls " as any female would be, that doesn't live out of a peroxide box of hair color.

Yeah pack, guess I won't ever go that heavy, mine only peel a wee bit :)

Actually I'm Canadian :D

That probably equates to Democrat to most Americans as we're seen as pretty liberal up here. However, I actually lean more to the right...in this case I just don't see the point of the discussion getting nasty. Discussing and disagreeing is fine and fun but when we resort to name calling over whether or not to wear gloves while weight lifting? Just seems a little silly to me!

Well beyond silly (unless you wear pink frilly underwear).

Can't say that I do....however, to get back on topic I have given up on wearing gloves due to the fact that I get a better "feel" for the weights without them. I will still wear them occasionally if one of calluses is causing problems or something though.

Razor,

The topic of the thread was derailed and became something other than its intent. A simple question about if you use gloves or not turned into a machismo-testosterone filled-sexist atmosphere. passion does not lie on whether I wear gloves or not, or who thinks what of me if I do where gloves or not. Let's face it, lifting and staying in shape is no cakewalk... so, I don't think anyone here is a 'sissy' or 'buttercup' or any other term meant to demean anyone, in jest or malice.

And yeah, I don't take much seriously over the internet... people are people, and you're right BillyG, we're all entitled to our opinions. But it's 2011 almost... let's drop the sexist comments. Let's all grow up and learn to take shots at each other tastefully and with respect. Making sexist comments extends beyond one's personal opinion and lands in the zone of discrimination and sexism. Plain and simple.

And BillyG, I didn't call you a meathead, I said your response was meathead... which it was. Completely archaic. I don't know you personally and so I make no personal judgments. So, peace be with you and I hope you enjoy your callouses. Great. That's just no for me.

I was just about to write an article about this. I strongly recommend using gloves. They pad your hands so heavy weights don't pince the muscles against your bones. They also protect from calluses which can eventually end up being extremely uncomfortable. In experience they protect your hands and don't affect your grip strength. Straps also help too. Straps take the weight off of your hands and let you concentrate on working on your back muscles as opposed to worrying about if you can hold the weight.
Cheers :D
