protein shakes - making me feel sick

Post by happyhappy »

This is first time ever using protein shakes, I usually try to get extra protein from food, but I've been really busy and working out hard so I have turned to the shakes for extra help, but they make me feel so sick around 15mins after drinking one. Any alternatives recs.

No not lactose intolerant fortunately, I do get the same nauseous feeling if I ever take a multi vitamin...strange. The trouble is I need something extra as getting pretty tired from working out and would like something quick and easy, have to check out the protein content of skimmed milk. Thanks.

Are you type O blood type? Cause if you are, you should read about the blood type diets. I have this same problem and it tells why.

Blood type diets are potentially hit and miss, so don't be reliant on them.

If you want another type of fast Protein, try Scrambling a few Egg Whites and a yolk, and making Egg Sandwhiches. Scrambled Egg isn't as solid a consistency as Meat and Poultry, so it may break down a bit quicker and the Bread Carbs would help synthesise the Protein.

Alternatively try a Carb free powder mixed with water and add something like some Crushed Oats fo CArbs. Then you can use things like Vanilla essence, ground Ginger, ground Nutmeg, cinnamon or a bit of Honey to alter the taste.

I know this post is a couple of weeks old but I'm back on the forums and saw an opportunity to pass on a protein pancake recipe a trainer gave me last year that is a real lifesaver. Not only are these cheaper than protein shakes or bars, but they're easy to make, eat, digest, freeze, and are highly portable. Here's the recipe:

Protein Pancakes

1 L 1% cottage cheese
3 cups egg whites
3 cups rolled oats
1/4 cup splenda
1 tsp. maple flavouring
2 tsp. cinnamon

Mix ingredients in blender or with hand mixer, freeze, or store in the fridge for up to one week.
Makes 24 CD-sized pancakes. Eat two for a meal replacement or post-workout snack.

I mix protein with water. It dissolves better. Doesn't taste as great as with milk but goes down a bit easier. I think protein shakes just take some getting used to. You should just drink a lot of water with them to dilute them so it's not like concrete sitting in your stomache. Hope this helps
Cheers :D
