I'm a overweight teen jogging for fat loss

Post by Heresiarch »

I usually jog running at 4.0 mphs then switch it for cooldown at 3.0 i usually jog for 30 minutes or just walk really fast, I usually burn 120-190 cals a day not really sure if thats good enough considering i'm 300 pounds 6'0 and 16.

I think it is a good step in the right direction. One thing you can do is to switch up your speed while you are in your 30 minute workout period. Instead of staying at 4.0 mph for the whole time, try speeding up for 30 seconds, then slowing down for 90 seconds or 2 minutes, then repeating this cycle 3 or 4 times.
You can get a much more intense and beneficial workout in the same time frame.
Example:
5 min. @ 3.0 mph to warm up
30 seconds faster @ 5.0 mph
90 seconds @ 3.5 mph (recovery phrase)
Then again - 30 seconds @ 5.0 mph / 90 sec. @ 3.5 mph
Repeat this 4 times
Then jog @ 4.0 mph for 15 minutes
Cooldown @ 3.0 mph for 5 min.
This is just a example, you can adjust it to whatever works best for you at the fitness level you are currently at. The key is to vary your speed to keep your body constantly adjusting and working hard.

Remember to stretch your leg muscles afterwards, slow stretching calves, quads, hamstrings. :D

With whatever you decide to do, be sure to set a goal for yourself. If you set a goal, it will help you keep track of your progress as well as provide motivation! I was having problems setting a goal for myself, and I found some really good information on how to create a goal that I can achieve at the following website http://stickwithitexerciseandnutrition.blogspot.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

The interval idea is a great one, but at this point even just being more active should help, you just need to apply yourself more. You either go longer or harder. Add some resistance exercise like some weights, or resistance bands for better results. lastly, don't forget to keep a food journal, its the one constant on all diets that work.

Cheers

i do the interval walk/run myself. i think i am still not fit enough to jog the whole 30 minutes. at the start, I jog and when I feel the difficulty in breathing, I stop and just walk. after doing for 2 months, I still can't completely jog the whole time. but I do walk briskly. i agree with the trainer here though, you need to go to the gym and add more workouts for you to successfully lose weight. but if you're just starting and you're finding it difficult to last, then continue with your jog/walk exercise. :)

cousin who was also overweight was enrolled in a well know summer camp by aunt. It was very effective, she lost weight and what was so good about being in the program it is continuous, it doesn't stop in camp. In addition, they were also taught proper discipline which is very important so that they wont go back to their old ways.

I think you're going to need a little more difficult exercises, you need to burn more calories. I would suggest incline training, a lot of great treadmills support this feature. Check out http://www.nordictrack.com and see what they have.
