Hello,
I wanted to get some beginner advice on the ideal pre and post workout nutrition. Currently, I'm doing full body workouts thrice a week and objective is to cut down on fat.(I also do a 5km run twice a week and I've lost about 6.5 lbs in a month and a half.)
I usually have a peanut butter sandwich 30 mins before hitting the gym and a glass of soy milk within an hour of completion.
Is this sufficient or should I be adding other foods? I've also been reading a lot of information online about taking shakes and supplements before, during and after workouts e.g whey protein. Would like to understand if any of these will help in muscle growth and recovery ?
I'm a complete newbie with regards to this so wanted to get some advice before trying out anything.

if you can have protein shake after the workout that would be great.
and since you say you watn to loose fat, keep in mind that you have to consume less calories than you exert (but don't drop calories dramatically).
remeber that peanut butter is fat and it has the most calories per gram, yes it is healthy but eat it moderatly, also since its fat i don't know how you do it in that gym lol, if i have at before a workout i tend to want to puke. i would say a piece of fruit will do fine, and if u still want peanut butter then just split the fruit in half and eat it with peanut butter.

Protein powder is a great thing to add to your diet pre and post, make sure it is not loaded with sugar though. As for your pb sandwich, organic peanut butter and whole wheat bread. Your program sounds like a good starter program but will likely need to be amped up in time. Keep us posted on how it works and just stay committed the rest will follow.

Go for a basic powder, so Whey, Carbs, basically that's it. Avoid the ones with loads of minerals, vitamins, herbs etc, as most are expensive, potentially not enough ingredients in some cases, making them not even worht the money and basically you don't neeed them.
Bodybuilders were getting big natural mass years ago in the 60's, before supplements even existed and that was hard graft and big calories, so protein powders aren't even necessary, but can help, however buying protein powders that cost 50% - 100% more, than a standard powder can cost, is a bit of a jip really and a waste of money.

Before workout any liquid thing. Shake or natural juice.

Basically, I am trying to tighten up meal plan overall but had really been thinking about post workout meal/drink more than anything else. Because i work out in the morning and recently had decided to just eat a "normal" breakfast afterwards which consisted of eggs, toast and some PB. I finally decided that this was probably too much fat and I could probably do a little better. I think what i decided on is pretty much in line with what what most of you were saying in the replies to this post. Ill let you know how this works out.

I haven't been able to find a good place to buy protein supplements online, I'm looking for the best deal available for possibly getting them in bulk? any suggestions?

yes protein powder is gonna be really very good for you if you want good body and muscles.you also have to eat regular vitamins and eggs while workout. ya but if you want six pack abs then you have to eat less fat then usual.
