Condiments and dieting

Post by Megamind2011 »

hey everyone,

i'm trying to get diet in check and so far its been pretty good. However,i've been told a lot of condiments I like to use (ketchup/mayo) are bad for diet?

can anyone suggest any substitutes for everyday condiments? perhaps certain brands?

For some odd reason even as a kid I hated the taste of salsa, always made me throw up :?

For myself, it's also about moderation. I'll use miracle whip or some such thing instead of mayo though because mayo is so high in calories (~100/tbsp!). I'm ok with ketchup (a little sugar won't kill me, right?...right?), I just try to use it relatively sparingly.

I wouldn't say mayo is a complete no go. sure it's high in fat, but, depending on the brand of course, it's low in saturated fat. Giving you a nice array of EFA's and Omega 3. What I would say is be conservative on it's use and read the label on the back so you know what's in it.

Not saying anyone is wrong, just two cents on it :)

Ketchup is too Suagry so consider it a no-no.

Hey T.P.w you're not allowed 2 cents because your British :P. Go on Oanda.com convert that into pence and then use that instead ,

Ketchup is sugary, however, if you use ~1 tbsp on a burger (and that's a lot of ketchup for one burger so I'd probably use about 1/2 a tbsp), how much sugar are you really getting? Not much...but that's just opinion. I used to feel as you do and not use ketchup at all so I know where you're coming from.

Just checked the bottle of ketchup in the cupboard

Per 100g, 24.1 carbohydrates, 23.7 of which sugars

Crikey! good thing I haven't used ketchup in years!

Regular ketchup has about the same 3 grams of sugar/tbsp (or maybe 3.5 if you want to get technical). Meaning for a burger's worth, I'd get about 1.75 grams of hfcs. If that's the worst thing I eat in a day, I'm sure not going to feel bad!

If you can handle a little heat, this is really good.
I buy the canned adobe peppers in chipolte sauce.Take a little of the sauce and chip some of the pepper in it, mix with lime juice, low fat sour cream and salt. I add tomatoe sauce but you don't have to. Just keep it on the creamy side. 20 cals. per tbs.
I also like krafts new chipolte mayo spread(40 cal per tbs) but homemade version here has half the calories. And you can bring it even further down by ommiting tom. sauce or just useing less sour cream.

Slendertone habits -- such as helping yourself to the big piece of chicken, eating the wrong kind of health foods or adding on an extra dollop of ketchup -- are big mistakes that contribute to a larger waistline.

A good example, Female Arms, Slendertone, is enforcing a strict diet and workout regimen Monday to Friday only to cut loose on the weekends (with an extra helping at dinner or a glass of wine filled with empty calories).

Slendertone are an abysmal company with abysmal products. They're even more of a joke than George Bush and that's saying something.

Slendertone, that's some funny ha ha; they make me laugh even more than an Eddie Murphy film and that guy has great comic timing :P :P.
