Hiya schrwneggears (i joke), im 16 and am currently going gym once a week, after june 22nd i will increase it to at least 3 times as this is when GCSE exams will finish. I am 5ft7 nhalf inches and weigh roughly 11.4 stones , i am quite chubby but i belive i am quite strong aswell as i am stronger than most people age ,i am capable of training with weights on par with most of the adult people at gym also i have been told by PE teacher (physical eduacation teacher)that i am definately a mesomorph i need to become 11 stones , but i want to take proten whey and convert fat in to lean muscle , does this really work , will teh effects last after say 3months of me taking teh stuff or do i ahve to take it forever , i want to be more muscular and defined ........some help please ,shoudl i take this stuff?

Secondly, you weight 11st 4, and you're 5ft 7. You can't be chubby, unless your have seriously poor levels of muscle, and you somehow have about 40% , and the strength of an 10 year old. You might well be Mesomorph, but I think, you're near the Ectomorph kind of Genetics, rather than an out and out Mesomorph.
Plus losing 4lb's is nothing at all. It would do nearly nothing to change your body composition
Protien powders mostly help to build muscle. Expecting them to work as a fat loss aid, is not realistic. They can kind of help, but they won't do much in that respect, they are more anabolic than Fat metabolizers.
Also, any affects you get off them will be lost, if you discontinue use after 3 months.
You won't maintain strenght levels you get, if you cut calories by discontinuing use of a Protein Powder.
So if you want more muscle, which can aid Fat loss to a minor degree, the powder can help, in conjunction with the right physical training, but you need to be on it at least once a day, to potentially get the best from it.

If I'm doing the conversion correct you weight about 162lbs?? if that's the case with your height, I wouldn't appear that you're that overweight???
If you want to build muscle and lose fat it's really hard to do both at an exteme and you usually have to sacrifice one or the other..
I would start by losing the fat while toning up muscle. Prob the easiest way.
start out by doing three days per week in the gym.. M-W-F if possible and start by doing 20-30 minutes of cardio. then about 30-45 minutes of weight training. I would start off with moderate weight, high reps with little rest between sets. don't push to failure. Pick a weight you can do 10-12 times without killing yourself.. do a google search for beginner weight training routines and pick a good 3 day split.
Also diet. You should stay away from fast food, eat lots of vegies fruites and chicken/tuna.. no soda's drink only water. try to take in about 2200-2500 calories per day of good healthy food. I know that's going to be tough for a 16 year old..
In regards to the whey, yea I thinks it's great for building muscle. But I honestly don't think you need it at this point.
Try doing this for 12 weeks or so and if you stick to it, I guarantee you'll see some pretty imcredible transformations considering your age! After you trim off the weight and get good and toned... then start a training program geared at addding bulk muscle... good luck!!

I know this reply comes late, but i hope it helps anyways.
Given that you're around 5'7" - 5'8" and 160lbs (11.4 stones x 14 = 159.6lbs), I would generally say you're a little overweight unless your solid muscle. Personally I am 5'11" and 160lbs. I used to be 145lbs, but through a solid workout plan and Whey protein shakes I have gained 15lbs of muscle. So from personal experience I would say Whey protein does help to gain muscle, but it certainly will not help you lose weight or convert fat into muscle.
As for advice of what to do, look through this site for workout routines and diet info and start a 3-4 day a week workout plan and implement a healthy diet. the hardest thing in the world to do is to keep a healthy diet going, but it will help tremendously.
