Paleo diet?

Post by skully »

Has anyone done it? What do you think of it?

Basically: No carbs (pasta, rice...etc, only sources is veggies and fruits), no legumes (they claim they are "bad" for you, due to the combination of protein/carbs) and no grains (of any kind). No salt, no sugar...no friend foods (no brainer), also no dairy (milk, cheese....etc.)

It seems VERY restrictive. I am thinking to do a one day PAelo (all meat and veggies and fruits and healthy fat) and one day (as I eat normally)

Anyone who tried it, what tips do you have? Is it "managable", did you get lean with it?

I haven't done it and don't plan to do it. It's a very limited choice of foods. Humans have digestive enzymes for starch, it's natural and good for humans to eat wholesome starches like grains, beans, and potatoes. They are very likable foods, easy to digest, and they give you some great energy.

It's fine if you want to do the Paleo diet. At least, it is wholesome. There are no processed foods, no artificial colors and additives, no white flour and sugar. The vegetables they have you eat are good for fighting cancer and disease that you could get from trying to eat so many animal products. Obviously, people are doing it and liking it enough to continue doing it.

If you want to do it and are struggling with it, I think you should try one week on and one week off. Or, try one day on and one day off until you hit a point where you know for yourself the direction you want to take. Listen to your body. Watch out for your cholesterol going way up. You get extra cholesterol in your body by eating extra cholesterol. Watch and see how your digestion is.

You will also need to consider how your bones do. High protein in the kidneys tends to cause kidney stones and when too much flesh is eaten it can make the blood acidic. This gets counteracted by the calcium being taken out of the bones to make it alkaline again. However, vegetables can be good sources of calcium.

Another possible problem is the problem of not getting enough B vitamins since B vitamins are plentiful in grains and necessary for skin, teeth, and the absorption of iron. See this post for some important nutritional information about the problems of the Paleo diet http://www.livestrong.com/article/31091 ... aleo-diet/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's possible that you may do well with this Paleo diet, just listen to your body and become informed.

Paleo is however good for people with digestive enzyme creation problems.

Also B Vitamins are found in things like Mushrooms, Parsley and other things besides grains, so Paleo wouldn't seriosuly hinder a persons ability to get those nutrients, just restrict some of the ways they can be obtained.

It may not be for everyone, but it may work, as some people report issues with grains like bloating, or mild abdominal discomfort and for people with things like Chrons, Coeliacs and Ulcerative Colitis, basically Inflammatory Bowel Disorders, (IBD's), it may be of some benefit, although in the case of Chrons, there's never been a conclusive link between grains and flare-ups, like the is with UC and Coeliacs.
