I recently wrote an article about losing weight. I explained that to lose weight it is best to combine weight training and cardio. Seems that everyone feels that they have to do cardio all the time to lose the weight they want to lose. I have done some research on this and a lot of trainers feel that, you get better results combining the two. If you get a chance check out this article and let me know what you think. Post comments if you wish, I would love to get some feedback on this particular subject. Thanks.

Re: Weight training to lose weight.
No question that weight training burns calories hours and hours after the session is finished where as cardio burns calories only during the session itself.
Re: Weight training to lose weight.
I'm not too sure really James. The reason being, the body would burn more calories during and after weight training, but when you ate again, the body would switch its activities to processing the meal, meaning you'd get little to no additional caloric burn thereafter.
I think in general, people who believe exercise burns calories for hours afterwards, may be setting store in a false principle, but never being able to see what is physically going on, means they would never know, unless they had x-ray vision which is unlikely to say the least

Re: Weight training to lose weight.
Resistance training is the best way to leverage your muscles for the purpose of burning fat. Not only does building muscle burn fat because of the calories burned during what should be very strenuous and intense workouts, but the result is a breakdown in muscle protein which takes up to (and sometimes over) 72 hours to repair – and all the while it’s repairing, it’s burning more calories than it normally would. The result is significantly heightened fat burning for a prolonged period of time.
Re: Weight training to lose weight.
Well in respect of the muscle gaining process positively affecting fat levels, I concur on that, as 1lb of added muscle can burn an extra 45-50 calories a day, so I can see where you're coming from now.
However in saying that, as the body would use some of its activity for processing freshly eaten calories, I would still humbly suggest, that some of that fat burning potential from growing and / or repairing muscle, would be compromised.
I had however not considered the situation from the viewpoint you used, so I appreciate that

I agree with this. Mixing weight training and cardio does give you good results. A wrote a post about it http://www.wtmtraining.com/2012/02/weig ... eight.html you can check that out if you want to see point of view on this.
