HATE TO EXERCISE!!! ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Post by jackie1107 »

Okay... I am currently back on the wagon, losing the weight.... AGAIN. I have to say that I am finding it harder this time for some reason to exercise. Anybody have any good tips or suggestions? Even a stern talking to about just getting butt up and doing it might even help, lol!!!

Thanks guys! :D

Remember why you're doing it.

It's also about the things you can't see. It's because you want to cut your risk of Strokes, Heart attacks, Dementia, Cancer etc, not just lose weight.

It's about remembering things you can't see happening and remembering they are potentially happening, so when you sometimes have one or two weeks when the weight loss seems disspointing, don't forget the bigger picture, because weight loss has many more wellness benefits than the cosmetic ones, infact almost all the things weight loss can achieve are in vivo benefits, not ex vivo, I.E. cosmetic and having a better functioning body, is more important than having a trim exterior, but by having one thing, the others can happen too.

The other major thing to remember is that you ARE worth it. You don't deserve to be morbidly obese. That's not a reason for anyone to be born, so one day they can be punished with weight problems. Anyones reason to be born, apart from their parents hopefully wanting them, is to try to live well, hopefully live long and achieve a good long-lasting level of acceptable living, not to throw their lives away with crime, substances, self neglect and anti-social behaviour and in doing so potentially die young, or substantially devalue the life they were born with.

So keep believing in YOU and keep remembering it IS worthwhile, it IS important and you have never mattered more to yourself, then you do NOW :).

You DO have the power to change, so don't forget just how amazing you are right now and how much more amazing you CAN become.

Remember that you will slip-up sometimes, but don't be afraid of it, just recognise it when it happens, try to learn from it and get back on track quickly. You're human after all and it IS okay and it DOESN'T mean there is anything wrong with you :).

Whatever support and help you need, we CAN be here for you, so keep us updated when you can, because the more you do, the more we can be here.

GOOD LUCK. You DO have the potential to be incredible. Unleash that potential and don't stop letting it grow and develop. You've already gotten back to the right kind of way(s), to live, so don't stop now, be strong, chin up and no worries okay.

You CAN do this and you DESERVE to be proud, for taking positive action to change yourself.

:)

make it fun!! joinn a zumba class, visit the Y for a group weight lifting lass, start karate. play tennis. When you are with other people or have a workout buddy, you may like to do it a bit more. Aslo when you are doing something you want to do, like play a sport, you may find that you want to exercise to get better for that sport. It happened for me. I played tennis and got tennis elbow, so i lifted weight so I would be a better player with less pain, that moved into total body weight lifting and then I was able to do cardio just to make tennis better. I found karate after that and i train with people I love to be around and even when injured, I will go to class and do what I can.

Find something you love--look, if you hate it, you won't do it. You must find something fun that won't feel Ike exercise. Try everything until you find the activity you love.

The other thing I firmly believe is diets don't work--you have to make a lifestyle change. Eat healthy everyday; all things in moderation. Today I ate a bacon cheeseburger on a gluten free bun, fries, and a chocolate shake. Do I eat this way everyday--heck no, in fact I can't tell you the last time I even ate fries. The reason for the meal was a local diner just introduced a gluten free buger and I'm gluten free--so I had a pig out. So tomorrow I go back to normal healthy way of eating. I went from 179 to 109 without counting a single calorie. Doc said I was too skinny, so I've been holding at 115-117 for 2 yrs now. I eat what I want--but what I want is a healthy diet...not a bunch of fats, salt, and sugars. And believe me, healthy fresh food is delicisous. Studies show weight loss is more diet than exercise--so your battle is really in the kitchen. In fact, first 30 lb loss came without any exercise. I was so sick from celiac disease, I couldn't exercise. When I eliminated gluten from diet, I also took all the crappy unhealthy foods out as well--and the weight just melted off.

Also, take one day at a time--24 hours is a short time. This day shall pass; how you use this time toward your goal to a healthier life will pass quickly. A day becomes a week, a week a month, a month a year. Simply focus on today...set your goals and go for it. In tiny bits, its so doable. If you say I have 70 lbs to lose and I've only lost 2 lbs, you defeat yourself--70 lbs is a very big goal and way too far down the road. Instead say, "today I eat ______and I do ______." When you climb into bed, you say, "mission accomplished."

BTW, don't get me wrong, exercise is important for many reasons: cardio health; bone density; stress reduction; improved mood. I workout regularly. point is, you can still loss weight even if you don't work out 5 days wk. Don't throw in the towel if you can't find activities to enjoy. You can still live a healthy life and lose weight through a lifestyle change in the way you eat. If you can throw in walking, or yoga, or biking, all the better.

Well, no pain no gain right? If you want to see the results, you have to be willing to put the effort in.

Changing your diet is a start though, if exercising is too much of a hassle. Or just do the little things, like parking your car slightly further than you used to so that you'll walk more. They add up.

get a gym membership with a friend, it makes it much easier to work out with a talking buddy, then you have to ask yourself what you want out of this and when you feel like quiting remember you will most likely eventually start working out again with the same goal so dont quit and push yourself. arnold schwarzenegger once said, "The secret is to make your mind work for you -- not against you." when you're working out think positive thoughts and how good you will feel after an accomplished day and how great it will feel when you finally achieve what you want. there's no shortcuts to anything good in life so if you cant do this then how far will you go in anything else really? suck it up and push through it till you learn to love it!

If you really hate exercise after all that's been said about it, take the advice of the previous poster-to find something fun that requires physical activity. What about sports?

I, myself don't exercise "per se". But what I do is: I choose to walk if it's just a mile or two instead of drive. It's good for health and it gives me an opportunity to do share of saving our mother earth. In addition, since the kids love to swim, I join them most of the time. Again, it works two-fold: exercise for me and bonding with the kids.
